I really wish I could have started lifting earlier than I did but had the protective parents back in the day and said I needed to let my bones grow lol. What age do you guys think its safe to allow our kids to start working out thses days?

I wrestled starting at age 9, played peewee baseball, football so some kind of workout you had to do. I think it's not a bad thing to hit weights early but I don't think a kid should push him or her self to be a BB at the age of 9. That's a bit much

my gym allows kids to join at age 13. i dont want my boys to start training and lifting heavy until 14, they play sports so push up, sit ups, pull ups, sprints are ok its their body weight

I started at 12. That's when my biceps turned into little mounds and I hit puberty. I'm taller than my mother and father (which isn't saying much)

Any kind of exercise, including weights, I think is good for kids. But I think any hard core, heavy, lifting, training should wait for
puberty. 15 or 16. Everyone is different though.

YEAH IM ON THE 1 any body weight movement push pull-ups running light weights ect until 15-16..boys can get a good little body doing that they dont need any more heavy pressure on there joints to much growing going on..

heavy i'd say 14, pushups and pull ups as soon as they can/want to

I went to jr high with this kid named Joe Cohen, wikipedia him

dude had never lifted weights in his life, he was like 6 feet tall 205 lbs cut as hell.
Saw him my first day of 7th grade and thought I was gonna die in this school. I was 105 lbs, 5 ft tall, and that was getting chubby bc I started eating lil debbies brownies everyday and one day I was like where did my six pack go and why are my nips getting pointy, so I grew 5 inches that year and stayed the same weight lol.
In ny event I guess it depends on the individual bc this beast could have safely lifted heavy although he didnt need to

I used to think for a long time that kids shouldn't start doing any lifting until 14-15 years old....then I started researching it, there aren't any studies that really prove that weight training a young age will have any affect on growth plates or anything like that. As long as its done PROPERLY it is safe to start at 7 or 8, keep the weights light work on form and make it fun. Look at farm kids, they grow up picking up heavy things from a very early age and you don't see these kids having too many growth problems, in fact they usually grow up being extremely strong...
