lol...your'e still a young f*&k MW. There is something to be said about low weight high reps though. Check out Wesley Inman's YouTube videos. He has a unique way of doing shrugs using a 45 lb. plate in each hand and doing sets of 20 with a long squeeze at the top. He is a strong man competitor, and his traps are pretty big.
Wes's trap routine is literally magic!

This thread should end LOL. No trap routine can even come close and I've tried everything.

A little self deprecation: I just realized I added to the thread I said should end. Fail on my part LOL.

As long as I'm around 20 reps, I'm good. As I've gotten older though I need to pre exhaust everything so I can use lighter weight. You definately look better as you age, but the weights cause ALOT more damage

Where ya been brutha?
Also, could you talk about looking better as you age?

I've really only been using 50 or 60 lb dumbbells for shrugs lately and I've never been this sore. I also use the clock on the wall so that I know I'm squeezing for at least 2 seconds on every rep, I think that has really helped also

Hey Bro, I've had some issues with work and I was in a car accident at work and now I'm out until I have neck surgery. Then there's the lawsuit so that takes up some time. Been trying to get other things in order. Training has taken a big backseat, but I'm still a lean 250 with two a week workouts with no squats, deads, shrugs, or pretty much anything but machines. I'm still getting stronger and doing a little cardio and looking better. All this while my diet hasn't been so great.
Live found that I can actually grow better on this routine for now.

I'm sorry to hear that man. Good luck with getting everything back in order and the law suit.

Dude, what the hell. Hope you're ok bro.

traps are a strong body part of mine , maybe because ive done physical work my whole life and always had to pick shit up but i only to one exercise for traps a week, shrugs , 135x20 225x16 315x12 405x10 495x6 then 225x15-20 but i really concentrate on the flex and squeeze of the muscle

I train traps til failure for 4-5 sets! medium heavy weight to start with and build up to heavy!

Maybe its just me, idk but i believe traps can grow well no matter how you train them, as long as you hit them hard ! But im a firm believer in training every body part til failure!

Oh and i remember seeing Wesley traps before and they were crazy huge, nothing like this video he has posted in this thread, they were much much bigger!

for the record, Wesley Inman is a stand up guy, and knows what he is talking about!

Presser has resurrected a years old thread! But it's a good one...

I've sort of developed a theory about smaller muscles and higher reps. For example, my shoulders seem to respond better to higher rep/less weight workouts than they do heavy/low rep. Maybe it's just me and my shoulders that have both had surgery, but the main thing I get from a heavy shoulder workout is pain....

As far as traps go, I will give Wes's 45 lb plate routine a try. I don't really like shrugs though I do them sometimes, but lately my traps have been growing in response to deadlifting. Which sort of blows my low weight/high rep theory out of the water...

There. That was clear as mud.

The delts and traps are mainly slow twitch so it makes sense they would respond to more time under tension.

Huh, I had no idea. I guess that might explain why they seem to respond to deadlifts despite not getting a full contraction. They're certainly under tension the whole time.

Traps are one of my stand out muscle groups actually but I don't do much to train them, I think it's just genetics.
When I do train them Inoften do a pyramid up to a heavy weight and then a rapid drop set back down. I also like to do farmers carries.

For me explosive training grows them the best.
