do you think swimming laps is to much cardio while on a bulking cycle? does riding a real bike not a stationary bike count as cardio? trying to find some new ways to do cardio?
Before I started bodybuilding I was a highly competitive swimmer. This was about 5 years ago. I swam 2.5 miles ED. I was shredded but weighed only 165-170 and was eating anything I wanted. NO attention to diet except highprotein intake. I was unable to gaina single pound cuz I burned so many cals ED. THis post may be useless to you given that I doubt you will swim several miles ED, but this is just what I've noticed. Since I discontinued my swimming competition and started bodybuilding now four years later I am 235 pounds. Of course I did take some supps along the way
Anyways when I stopped swimming I went from swimming 2.5miles ED to doing ZERO exercise and I blew up fat to 216. Then when I got into bb'ing I did the bodyopus diet by dan duchaine and dropped down to 170 in under 12 weeks. Since then with weight training I have brought my body back up to its natural weight but with a different composition and now have far surpassed that even.
So all I can say is I think swimming is a great form of cardio and I believe probably more efficient at burning cals than any other form if you swim properly and efficiently. You don't need to swim nearly as long as you need to run. I equate swimming 1mile to running 4-5miles.
I do zero cardio now and only rely on my diet to keep me cut, but if I were to do cardio it would be swimming. Because it's low impact on joints and I would have to spend less time doing that than running and plus I love it.
Swimming is a sport that I truly miss, but I am unrecognizable as comparred to when I had my swimming physique. I now look forward to stepping on stage one day for bb'ing competition if I can ever get there... I give TOTAL commitment so we'll see...well enough rambling i thinnk i've provided at least a lil info and then some...lol....bigjosh
Swimming is great, but it can be tough when bulking. I started to do in post cycle recovery after my first bulking cycle, and it seemed to work well. I shredded some fat, and kept most of my muscle mass.
