James Gallagher | Esther Lin, MMA Fighting A pivotal bantamweight matchup is in the works for Bellator’s spring schedule.
Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a bout between Patchy Mix and James Gallagher is being targeted for Bellator 258. The event is scheduled to take place May 7 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. MMA DNA was first to report the booking.
Per sources, verbal agreements are in place with contracts expected to be sent out soon.
Mix will be looking to bounce back following the first professional loss of his career in September. Mix took on Juan Archuleta for the vacant Bellator bantamweight title in an entertaining fight that saw Archuleta win the championship via unanimous decision. “No Love” holds promotional finishes of Ricky Bandejas and Isaiah Chapman, as well as a first-round submission win over Yuki Motoya at RIZIN 20 in December 2019.
Gallagher, 24, enters the biggest fight of his career on a four-fight winning streak, which includes submission wins over Steven Graham, Jeremiah Labiano and Cal Ellenor. A longtime teammate of Conor McGregor, Gallagher has been training in the U.S. at Glory MMA and Fitness for the last few months.
Bellator 258 will be headlined by Archuleta’s first defense of his 135-pound title as he faces Sergio Pettis.
