Yan attempts the first defense of his bantamweight title after capturing the belt vacated by former two-division champ Henry Cejudo. The 28-year-old Russian dominated Jose Aldo in his most recent outing, earning a fifth-round stoppage of the former featherweight kingpin this past July at UFC 251. Yan hasn’t lost a fight in nearly five years and is 15-1 as a professional, picking up seven of his wins in the octagon.
Sterling, the No. 1 ranked fighter at 135 pounds, realizes a long-held goal of fighting for the belt after amassing five straight wins, most recently an impressive first-round submission of Cory Sandhagen at UFC 250. The grappling specialist has earned eight of his 19 wins via submission and carries an 11-3 record into his fight with rival Yan.
