According to the California State Athletic Commission, UFC Middleweight contender Chael Sonnen was tested positive for Performance Enhancing Drugs for his fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 117. The fight took place last months on August 7th at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, with Silva defeating Sonnen via Triangle Choke/Armbar combination in the final 5th Round.

CASC Executive Officer George Dodd stated that Sonnen already received his notice, but refused to reveal for which PED the Oregonian was tested positive.

Chael Sonnen was originally scheduled to square off against Silva in a rematch on February 6th in Las Vegas, but now may face a long suspension from fighting.

This is what Anderson Silva's manager Ed Soares had to say on the situation: “If it’s true, I feel really bad for him,” said Soares. “I know he did it to himself but it is really sad, he put on such a great performance that night. It is just a shame it will be tarnished.”

found this on the net, thought i'd share.

[quote">There have been two further developments in the Chael Sonnen positive drugs test story. Firstly whilst we still do not know exactly what the substance was that he tested positive for, The Wrestling Observer and other outlets are reporting that the California State Athletic Commission has confirmed that he failed due to an ”unusually high level of testosterone”. This would suggest that the substance he failed for was a steroid and would seemingly undermine the argument put forward by some, that the test failure was due to Sonnen taking medication to combat the cold he was complaining about before the fight.

Secondly and more bizarrely, the CSAC’s Executive Director George Dodd told Sports Illustrated that Sonnen had actually told him that he might fail for a Performance Enhancing Drug shortly before taking the pre-fight test, the day before UFC 117. Dodd told SI.com that “He only indicated that he was taking [illegal substance"> but he never indicated why” and that Sonnen failed to include details of the substance or provide a genuine medical reason for using it in the formal documentation that all fighters submit to the Commission about any medicines or supplements they may be using.

There has of yet been no comment from Chael Sonnen
