Sources close to the situation confirmed to MMA Fighting that the eight-round exhibition match between Tyson and Jones Jr. scheduled for Sept. 12 has been postponed, following an initial report from The Athletic. The targeted date to re-book the fight between former world champions is Nov. 28.
The reason for the postponement is unclear, per sources.
Tyson, 54, retired in 2005 following a loss to Kevin McBride after not answering the bell in the seventh round. “Iron” has lost a considerable amount of weight and looks to be in tremendous shape ahead of his return to the ring.
Jones Jr., 51, told MMA Fighting in a recent interview that he expects Tyson to be a dangerous threat for the first three rounds and to “throw hammers” his way despite the bout being contested under exhibition rules.
MMA Fighting recently confirmed that the pay-per-view price tag for the event was set for $49.99 and would be streamed through cable, satellite and social media platform Triller. No word if that is still the case for the new targeted date.
