Esther Lin, MMA Fighting Former champion Nicco Montano is expected to make her return to action against Karol Rosa at an upcoming UFC event on Feb. 6.
Multiple sources confirmed the news to MMA Fighting following an initial report from Combate.
Initially crowned as the first ever flyweight champion in the UFC, Montano only fought at 125 pounds one time inside the octagon before surrendering the belt when she suffered through a brutal weight cut ahead of a fight against Valentina Shevchenko in 2018.
After moving to bantamweight, Montano suffered a unanimous decision loss to Julianna Pena. Since that time, several of her fight bookings have been delayed or cancelled. Most recently, she was forced out of a scheduled bout against Julia Avila due to travel restrictions that prevented her from going to Abu Dhabi.
Now Montano looks to make her first UFC appearance in over one year when she returns in February.
As for Rosa, the Brazilian has won her first two fights in the UFC with a split decision over Lara Procopio and a unanimous decision against Vanessa Melo. Rosa was scheduled to face Sijara Eubanks in September, but she was pulled from the card due to a bad weight cut.
The UFC hasn’t officially announced any events in 2021 yet, but Montano vs. Rosa is expected to take place on a show currently scheduled for Feb. 6. The location is unknown at this time.
