a buddy of mine got his red blood cell count tested at work because he works around radiation. anyway it was off the charts because of his current cycle of AS, so they tested for other things and found them in his blood. he thinks he has the doc at his work convinced that its because of prohormones because they show up on test as AS. does anybody know where i can find articles that prove this. if i could find some by some doctor or something it could save his ass. your help is needed thanks.

Best bet is have a lawyer (or law student) do a westlaw search and get specific legal precedents to back his claim.

Nonlegal do a search on espn, sports illustrated, and other sporting news sites to find specific stories regarding olympic drug testing (and natural bodybuilding) wherein tests were challenged based on use of legal substances causing positives for illegal substances. Also check the bb and pl mags for such information.

The 19-nors are especially guilty of this as they have the same markers as deca and tren.

Hey bro,

Your best bet is this. there have been many instances of prohormones found to contain actual hormones. That is, the prohormone makers often try to launch a product with good feedback and cheat a little. This has resulted in many athletes failing drug tests when they thought they were taking legal supplements. I have pasted one abstract below but if you search on this topic you will find a lot of examples.

Analysis of non-hormonal nutritional supplements for anabolic-androgenic
steroids - results of an international study.

Several recent studies have shown evidence of some nutritional supplements
containing prohibited anabolic androgenic steroids, so-called prohormones, which
were not declared on the label. Therefore, a broad-based investigation of the
international nutritional supplement market was initiated to clarify the extent
of this problem. From October 2000 until November 2001, 634 non-hormonal
nutritional supplements were purchased in 13 countries from 215 different
suppliers. Most supplements were bought in shops in the respective countries
(578 samples = 91.2 %) and on the internet (52 samples = 8.2 %). 289 supplements
were from prohormone-selling companies and 345 supplements came from companies
which do not offer prohormones. After isolation from the supplement matrix 11
different anabolic androgenic steroids, mainly prohormones of testosterone and
nandrolone, were analysed by gas-chromatography/mass spectrometry. Out of the
634 samples analysed 94 (14.8 %) contained anabolic androgenic steroids not
declared on the label ("positive supplements"). We could not obtain reliable
data for 66 samples (10.4 %) due to matrix effects. In relation to the total
number of products purchased per country, most of the positive supplements were
bought in the Netherlands (25.8 %), in Austria (22.7 %), in the UK (18.8 %) and
the USA (18.8 %). According to the label, all positive supplements were from
companies located in only five countries: the USA, the Netherlands, the UK,
Italy and Germany. 21.1 % of the nutritional supplements from prohormone-selling
companies contained anabolic androgenic steroids, whereas 9.6 % of the
supplements from companies not selling prohormones were positive. The positive
supplements showed anabolic androgenic steroid concentrations of 0.01 micro g/g
up to 190 micro g/g. The administration of supplements containing nandrolone
prohormones adding up to a total uptake of more than 1 micro g resulted in
positive doping results for norandrosterone for several hours.

I think the several hours only reference would discount this abstract for the purpose sought by this thread. Or was that a misleading statement as nandrolone can show markers for up to 18 months?

Bad statement in an article about a real issue -- I should have commented on that; thanks for pointing it out. In fact, nandralone is one of the hormones that did show up -- and as we know, nandralone stays for up to 18 months.

From a logical perspective, why would the half lifes change if the steroid is a contaminant vs the steroid being the intended drug? Biological decomposition would be the same.

Again, many articles about this out there.
