Who would step up for a human clinical trial??

My doc told me today that they are preparing to do some human testing with a Myostatin blocking Virus. Its taken once every 6 months and causes changes to your actual DNA. I told him to keep me updated as I would definately go for it. He is relatively certain that the test group will be a double blind placebo controlled test with AIDS patients, severe burn victims, and those with wasting diseases. Aside from being on the border of being too damn goodlooking to be a member of regular society, I don't fit into any of the target groups :-( How many of you would volunteer if you could?? You have seen the mice and primates right??

I never seen the "primates" but I have seen the mice and also cows with Myostatin gene removed, I would love to see the "primates" with no myostatin gene or with it blocked

And i would realy realy realy have to think about this one for a while, I mean it sounds good in theory to have your Myostatin blocked, but rearanging or changing my DNA is something I am not too comfortable playing around with, plus you have a good chance of looking like a total jackass! If they were able to actualy remove or block the Myostatin gene then you might litterly look like some morphed muscle maniac, and I dont mean pleasing looking either, I mean you seen the pics of those fucking cows without myostatin, they grew new muscles on top of muscles that normaly werent there before, so in reality one could possible grow another part of their bicep out to the side freakishly large, and the same holds true for all ur muscles, so you could wind up looking like something from another planet, and not actualy what most people think they would wind up looking like which is a super pro bodybuilder, I honestly think that look would come and go so fast and that you would pass that and become some circus freak, lmao, so yeah I would use it! lol

He showed me a pic of some kind of monkey and it was insane! It may have been a gorilla, but it was huge and shredded. I wouldn't be concerned with gowing new muscles... I mean they have to have origins and insertions. He explained that it had to be made into a viral form and we all know how viruses and transcription work, so yes it does make changes to cellular DNA. I would do it. It has to be done every 6 months, not long ago we were conducting human trials ourselves with IGF. Then again I love anything that gives me more control over mother nature.

I work at a pharmaceutical company and I have seen firsthand the amount of data that is compiled prior to human testing... there are loads of studies that need to be approved by the FDA and other regulations, so if it got to that level (human testing), the proof of efficacy and safety must be pretty positive.

Nevertheless, if someone *were* to participate, it might not be a bad idea to do your own research on that particular drug's history before agreeing to move forward. Hypothetically speaking, if all the variables proved to be on the up and up and such a thing were possible, THAT would be pretty friggin' badass!

It would be my luck I would be the only participant to have side effects and I would grow a third arm and my weiner would fall off.

While I do appreciate your enthusiasm, I have an extensive background in Pharmacology as well as Biomedical Science that is surpassed only by my firsthand knowledge of Government Agencies like the FDA. If you haven't seen it yet, the FDA doesn't care about you or me. They care about $$. Phen Fen, Vioxx, Xyrem, Oxycontin, should I continue?? Or we could shoot ducks in a barrel and go with cigarettes and alcohol. It is possible and it seems we will get it. Through which avenue is the only thing left undetermined.

Where do I sign up? Really. I'd do it in a heartbeat. Though I don't match any of their target groups either, they ought to throw in some bodybuilders to see what the effect is.

I said the same thing and I'm not willing to join any of the test groups. But...... he said most likely in a couple years it will "leak out" one way or another. The other funny thing about test groups is that from what I've seen first hand they don't have much bearing on our governments approval process. My mother was diagnosed with carcinoma of unknown origin and given 4 months to live. Doctors refused to even treat her. There was a .5% chance she would make it 6 months, no one made it past 2 years. She got slid into a Human trial for an experimental cancer treatment via a family member. After the 6 month treatment she was nearly dead, but slowly recovered. Now, 16 years later, she looks half her age and lives an incredible lifestyle. That treatment was never approved here, it was in Europe.

Okay, you win! I'm in business development, so you probably have more experience with FDA-related crap than I do... I just know what I know based on the progress and success of my company's programs thus far... but you're right... it's the government. Like they would be driven by money?? Nah... :)
