Three steps forward, 2 steps back - time to step forward again

I'm usually quite self-driven when it comes to training, but recent events are making it hard to be as motivated. I'm sure I'll get back that drive, but, right now it's not quite the same.

I had a *stupid* accident at home. She who must be obeyed wanted a smallish tree taken out of the yard. No problem! It's a conifer, so cut off branches around it to get to the trunk, chop down tree, carry tree to side of house to await disposal. Easy, right?

Well, I clipped the fence post when carrying the tree behind the garage. It shifted/rolled and I got both arms(biceps) somewhat skewered with the bits of branches that had been quickly cut off. Didn't think anything of it, just pulled back, cleaned the punctures (like large splinters, really, didn't hit any blood vessels, after all) and continued the yard work.

Few days later, lucky me - hot/red/sore and I'm beginning to run a fever. Sound familiar? As a frequent reader of the forum, it sounded just like an infected injection site...and....yes...it's just the same.

Was in hospital for a week after they diagnosed it and cut open both biceps to drain out the infection...intravenous antibiotics *plus* oral for a week, then 2 orals for a week after release. Only got to start training again last week - had been nearly a month, so significant size loss, contributed to the lower calorie intake while lying essentially unmoving in a hospital bed for a week.

So now, I'm looking at the work I'm going to have to *carefully* do just to get back where I was, let alone make progress, all because of a stupid accident. Suffice it to say, I'm less than enthused. I do want to get going again, but it's kind of "Didn't I already do this?"

Having read comments from many of you that have had health issues that interfered with the gym - how did you get that drive back?

Best advice I can give you bro is to just nut up and train!!!!! Ofcourse it's gna take a little time to get back to where you, but just think that you've been there before and you know what it takes to get there again. Dnt get discourged my friend. We all have issues we have to deal with. Set backs, family issues, injuries, etc. What separates the real BB from the posers is the will to do what ever it takes to reach your goal and accept no excuses. Train hard and kick ass my man....

Youtube videos from Zhasni get me more motivated than anything else. The man is a genius and has very good vids. A nice cycle wouldn't be a bad idea of course, and just get in there and do it. Once you start your first workout, you'll get the drive back. :bench:

Dont forget what the training does for your inner mindset and body.. If you can make time for tv then skip tv and get pumpin iron. .. good things happen in a gym..

damn bro, sorry thats some shitty ass luck!

I ruptured my bicep and after it was out of the sling that whole right side of my body was mush. The great thing is the muscle grow 3 times as fast as they did the first time. You'll see results daily. It's just a bump in the road. Take it for what it is and come back better. Besides... your body is totally rested now. Remember that everyone gets knocked down. The winners in life are simply the ones that get up one more time than everyone else. Wear it as a badge of pride.

I'll tell you bro, the only thing that ever gets me back to my old mindset is when I look in the mirror and see a skinny, undefined piece of shit. When I start looking like total shit it instantly gives me that drive to get back in the gym and push it harder than ever. A few years back I got bad on drugs and lost everything I'd gained and one day (a sober one) I finally realized how much weight I'd lost and that was it, since then I've never turned back

Well except when I broke my humerus and I had to come back after losing 40 pounds on that one as well, but I was itching to get back from that
