My eight year old is meeting a strength trainer tomorrow for an assessment and will hopefully start this week. The trainer is a strength trainer for a top MMA gym here in AZ owned by a few buddies that are in the UFC and this trainer is a huge advocate of kids lifting to help them grow.

My neighbors 4 boys did 4 months with him and the youngest who is 7 does 21 pull ups. Deadlifts 135lbs and squats 115lbs. They don't do any bb'er workouts but just fundamentals and strength push and pull movements. Mostly olympic style.

Very excited He also started football this season so I cant wait to see the changes. My son wrestles too but real loves football and is kind of burned out by wrestling 5 days a week.

My dad video'd me the first time I ever lifted a weight. It was pretty cool thinking back on it that he liked lifting enough to get that moment on video.

I'm excited. I like him trying new things and not be shy on jump in and fail to only pick himself up.

What kind of training do they do for an 8 year old boy? My oldest boy is 8 years old and he is always asking me when he can start lifting weights. I always thought that was too young but maybe I'm wrong.

No way. More studies show kids benefit from lifting weights. Aside from exercise it helps with bone growth and development, hand eye, circulatory and ligament development.

My neighbor said mostly form and strength movements but they do work out olympic lifts after they learn the basics. They don't do curls or the sort, mostly push and pull movements.

I'll try to take pictures of him and some of the movements they do.

Cool. Thanks Bro. I think this would be good for me and my little man. And if we start lifting together I will be able to out lift him for a while. Lol. I hope at least

Very cool! I wish I'd started when I was that young, he's going to benefit from this long term even if he decides later to not lift.

yes definately keep us updated i got 3 boys and the middle son who just turn 10 is anxious to start working out its crazy. every time he sees me with gym bag about to walk out the door he ask if he can go and on the weekend he will ask early in the morning what time im going i feel bad because mom was a pediatric nurse and the doctor she worked for was big on kids not lifting until their teens. i just read an article on it and will dicuss this with mom
