Ok so explain this to me. Literally almost all the jacked mofo's I know drink heavily at least once or twice a week and a lot of them have a couple beers or shots at night after training almost daily. It is usually low calorie beer or vodka. Does alcohol not get in the way of recovery?
I know that vodka is great because it does not interrupt ketosis and actually promotes it, but it is still an empty calorie that can't be used as glycogen right?
I will say this though, when I drink, I have noticed that I eat way cleaner and a couple beers or shots cannot be worse than eating a bowl of ice cream right?
Lots of studies show that drinking messes up recovery, but I'm not sure how well they were conducted since most have compared a meal post workout with getting drunk. Obviously, the meal will win. But I wonder if they compared having say 5 beers with a meal after training if the same effect would occur.
Further studies show that people who drink have better insulin sensitivity, overall health, less body-fat, more energy, less stress, healthier hearts, and many more positive results.
Anecdotally, One of the strongest motherfuckers I know literally spent all December going keto in the am (but 6k calories ed), training insane at night, eating cleanish carbs and protein after the training, then getting fucked up into a coma and repeating this several times a week. He recently almost broke a world record in powerlifting. This guy is also leaner and more muscular than me. His drink of choice was almost always vodka.
Another friend, one of the biggest bodybuilders I know, drank 2-3 times a week, even on orals and never had any issues.
Can somebody clear this up for me or want to comment?
