Would have been Mr. Olympia

In the early 90's I trained at a very hard cure bodybuilding gym in NJ. I was 16when I started training their and Beau was one of the first guys I noticed. The place was packed with ridiculous looking guys. Pros, top amateurs all over. I've never seen anything like it again and I'm never expecting to. Anyway, when I was 16, almost 17 this young 19 year old black kid was working out there too. 19 and unbelievable. He won the teen National that year. Then at 20 years old he won the overall at the NPC NJ. That was ridiculous because the level of competition back then in NJ was insane. The Next year, at 21 he win the overall at the Jr. USA and then won the light heavyweight class at the USA. Back then winning your class at the USA didn't turn you pro you had to win the overall and he didn't, forget who did. The Next tear at 22 he moved up to heavyweight and came in 2cnd at the NPC national. Again today second would have turned him pro but back then you had to win your class. After that he got sick. There were a lot if stories I have no Idea what was true so I'm not going to even guess. Sad fact was that this prodigy was finished at 22. I'm going to post a picture from, I think, the 1992 Nationals. Beau Matlock, I garuntee he would have been Mr. Olympia I don't know how many times. Too bad, really. You can also see his whole routine from that contest on YouTube. Just search Beau Matlock 1992 nationals because it was in ESPN. Watch it the one picture doesn't do him justice

Sorry for all the typos guys I'm waiting on a replacement phone. Using a piece of crap. No matter how careful I am it's so difficult to type on I always end up with typos. Never been a problem before so I forget to read it over sometimes. I know that can get annoying.

Looks like he had a great physique and tremendous potential.
I was a 16 year old kid just starting out totally intimidated by this place. But, I knew if I stuck it out I would get somewhere there.
I never really spoke to Beau, was too intimidated to, lol. To me, at the time, he just looked insane traning in the gym. He actually worked out for years with Jason Arntz. He was my age, year older maybe. Nothing special at the time. Used to just follow Beau around. I did know Jason, not on a friend's level, but we did some things together. I never liked him though. But that's the type of guys it was jyst regular to see there. I don't think a place like that exists anymore. Maybe Golds in Venice, CA? Rich Gaspari trained there also. It was so strange, after seeing him in magazines all my life, to see him right in front of me working out. It was just a once in a lifetime gym.
