Training to failure is a hot topic in the bodybuilding community. While many high -level bodybuilders recommend going to failure, research doesn’t always support this practice. Why is this the case?
-
💥 Research doesn’t always reflect what happens in the gym. Oftentimes, research protocols use untrained individuals who have no reason to train to failure – any type of training is stressful enough for them to make gains! Interestingly enough, though, research with trained subjects shows that stopping 1-2 reps short of failure leads to just as good of, if not better, gains than actually training to failure.

💥 If you constantly train to failure, you’re going to build up a ton of CNS fatigue and induce a ton of muscle damage. Neither is optimal for a long-term training program, so use failure training as a tool, rather than a law!
