I've been using diphenhydramine for a couple of months now to promote sleep. I usually only took it on the days I was very restless. It is a really good product.

But lately I have been really stressed and so I've been taking this stuff everyday for the past two weeks and so I was wondering if anyone knows about the long term effects of this product. Is it safe to use it every day for long periods?

Also, does anybody experience really bad nightmares on this shit or is it just me?

It's safe longterm. It blocks H-1 receptors primarily an as an antihistamine is used for long term allergy management. Mild tolerance to the sedative properties will develope with repeated use,so a few nights a week will keep it working well for you.

Nothing wrong with using the stuff long term. Ive been on the shit since I was a kid. Helps with allergies alot. Now, I take it before I sleep, both to help me sleep and for my allergies. I take other H1 blockers during the day so as to not make me sleepy. Diphenhydramine is relatively mild if you dont take it in combo with anything (tylenol) so you can take it while "on". Yes, there is possibility of having mild disturbance with the cns (bad dreams, hallucinations, being totally stoned, depending on your tolerance and experience). YOu should take it on and off to keep the tolerance at bay and maintain the benefits
