Who can call themselves a body builder?

Ok, i'm 5'11 220 at 12% bf. I don't consider myself a body builder at all. I just workout recreationally to meet my goals.

There's a guy at my gym who's just small. That's the only way to descrive him. He's taller than me, and just a hair over 200 lbs, and all he does is sit around and give other people advice, and comment on how great he's doing with his bodybuilding. And he's nowhere near lean. he says he's at 17% bf, but i strongly doubt that's possible.

To me, i only see people who compete as BB's. There are a ton of power lifters who workout down here, and they are strong as oxes, and most of them are cut to hell. They could easily walk onto a stage and shadow most "BB's"

Is it just me, or are most people just dreaming by calling themselves BodyBuilders? I mean shit, i can call myself a rocket scientist if i want, but sure as hell isn't going to make me one.

I just think if people who say that need to be able to back it up with a good phyisique, and a decent amount of strenght.

If you're the size of ronnie, and only bench 200, who's going to give you any respect?

Of course, this might just be me, but who knows....

I also agree with Presser. You don't need to be competing to be a BB. You don't need to have certain stats to be a BB. I think that anyone who works on their body to achieve there best attainable goals is a BB.

I call myself a body builder, and am currently in the process of trying to look more the part (vs. a power lifter). I don't typically max out, other than my ego, I don't really care how much I lift (it's hard to separate myself from my ego, though). I'm trying to build my body, with an emphasis on how it looks. I'd love to compete someday, at least once.

I just see Bodybuilders as the elite who have managed to sculpt their bodies into something great.

I know many of us are a work in progress, but i don't call myself a doctor, just because about 5 years i will be one...

I just think too many people sling the word around. Nothing big.

That's right. Even though someone might not have competed doesn't mean that they won't in the future. If you live your life like a bodybuilder, then you are a bodybuilder.

i consider myself a bodybuilder because im building my body the way i want it to look. I would say anyone that lifts, eats properly, etc is a bodybuilder, that doesnt mean they are professionals or will ever win an event, anyone can be a bodybuilder. Although not many of us will ever achieve pro status.

imo

...like everything else there are different levels of bodybuilding, but its still bodybuilding...

my friends think i am a body builder--but i dont feel like one---but i agree with presser anyone who uses exercise to create the body they want is a BBr

I love to workout, but probably would not consider myself a bodybuilder; even though I'm jacked LOL. :D

i agree with everyone to an extent that if you work on your body seriously and dedicated then you are a BB but to me i consider a BB someone who doesn't have to say that they are one, people just know!

So if someone is: small, fat, weak and you can just barely tell that they work out, if they say they're a bodybuilder, i should consider them to be dedicated to scuplting their body.

I think not.

I just dont think that any fat fuck who comes along should say that. Maybe it's just me.

Ok, so my new goal is to be 5'11 190-200 at 6% bf. Am i still a body builder since i want to have less muscle mass than i currently have?

Well I dont call myself a" body builder" although I understand what you are saying CJ. Although well are all body builders if we are working a acheive a better body. I guss it how you look at it.

Bodybuilder?

If you are working out to build your body into what you dream it can be than yes you're a bodybuilder. I look at pictures of me when I started (YIKES) ribbs showing & 12" arms @ 160LBS. I called myself a bodybuilder long before I won a bodybuilding competition. And I still consider myself am amatuer at all of this.

huh?

CJ-Fat guys can be bodybuilders, anyone who is dedicated to building a better body is a bodybuilder I think. Some are just in different stages. We all started somewhere. And, you don't have to compete or be pro to call yourself a BB. But, I do kind of agree with the saying "you shouldn't have to tell someone you're a BB, it should show". And BTW, if you're the size of Ronnie, who cares what you bench?

I could give a fuck less what kind of poundages I can throw around. I am doing this for ME!! I want to look in the mirror and be proud of what I have accomplished. Vain, bber, guy who works out...doesn't matter what you call it. When you start trying to look good for people other than yourself...you have failed. Call myself a BBer? No not really, somebody who trys to improve there physique thru lots of hard work...yes.........456

Ya, I just workout to look and feel better.

And also to be intimidating to the SO CALLED bodybuilders of this world
aka wannabes
:D
