workout routine

there is this guy at my local gym and he competes..nothing major but he is shredded....even more then me ...if u can believe that!! :D anyways....he is doin a 3 workouts a week....total body everyday...but the catch is that for example he might do shoulders really heavy on monday and chest lite that day 2...then wednesday he does shoulders lite and chest heavy....remember it is only an example...he does his total body...what do u guys think about this??i can agree with it some ways...but other things i do not....any input??
 
I think that's an ok plan for maintainace but not a way to add mass. You don't allow enough recovery time to allow the muscle to grow IMO.
 
I think That you need to change up your workouts often or your body gets used to it and adapts. So I dont see it being a problem for like 5 weeks or so but then I would change to something else.
 
ok ...i talked 2 him again 2day and he said he did it for mass.....altering sets every 4 weeks for 16 weeks...he is gonna put it all down on paper......i will keep u updated.
