New Drug released for DHT blocking

Dutasteride(brand name Avodart) is now avalible in the US. It is a superior 5 alpha reductase inhibitor to Finasteride(Proscar/Propecia)blocking both the type one and type two enzymes that convert Test to DHT. Type two is primarily active in the prostate while type one is also responsible for testosterone conversion in the skin and liver.
Finasteride is about 70% effective in blocking Test conversion,where Dutasteride is over 90%. Potential sides are essentially identical.
Dutasteride will give better protection against the developement of baldness and prostate problems than anything previously avalible. It comes in a 0.5mg soft gel dosed once daily.
I'm switching from Proscar to Avodart this week and let y'all know how it goes.

It's Rx only,no black market out yet that I've seen.
Scherer in France produces it for GlaxoSmithKline here in the US. The retail cost is less than Proscar.

You say this is a good prostrate protector? Is that correct? If so I'll have to check with the clinic, very cool.

That might work,although the manufacturer has not gone after the hairloss indication. You could say that you've been on Propecia and your nopt 100% satisfied and want to try Avodart,your Doc may buy that story...

The prostate indication is where the money is so thats why they've focused on that indication 1st. It's superior to Finasteride(Proscar/Propecia) on DHT blocking so for MPB it should be a superior drug as well.
Badgermoon,It blocks DHT so well there are preliminary studies looking at reduction/treatment of prostate cancer with this drug,something Finasteride has not done.

Price from a doc should be around $75 per 30 tabs, at least that's the cost I've heard.

is there a difference between taking Dutasteride at the 0.5 dosage versus just upping the dosage of Finasteride? it seems like it would have the same effect.

I 've got an online script for avodart with a six months refill.
I'm worried about the gyno sides of dutersteride though. I've experienced gyno with propecia, so I would think the gyno sides would be worse. I've used Femara with propecia and it doesn't seem to help. Test and dutersteride should ROCK with those with the MPB(male pattern baldness).

Okay

Dut at .5 mg is far more effective than Finasteride at even 5 mg a day.
In fact preliminary trials suggest .1 mg of Dut daily is equal to about 5 mg of finasteride ( this is of course 5 times over the propecia dose ).


The biggest flaw with Propecia is that infinate doses have no effect on type 11 5 alpha reductase and Avodart ( dutasteride ) is a much more powerful blocker anyway.

As for gyno concerns the % of incidents are almost identical to that of propecia and of course armidex 1/2 tab twice a week will combat those man boobs effectively, if the problem arises.
There are some natural estrogen supresses that many have had success with, they may be worth checking out.

Honestly though, if anyone has any concerns post on that board I gave a link to, these guys are very knowledgable and are willing to answer most questions.
