SuperBowl - Canadian sings American song

Man, I don't know how many Canadians are on this board and I'm definatly not trashing the Americans, but man it really choked me to have to watch a Canadian sing God Bless America. That was sooooo wrong. I'm as proud a Canadian as you'll find anywhere and I really truely believe it is wrong for a true proud Canadian to be singing an Amerian anthom on American soil. Couldn't they call Brittney Spears, Faith Hill or somebody else proud enough to sing it. I'm interested in responses. I would think it would choke a proud American as well. Its an American Anthom for god sakes.

I would consider it an honor if I were asked to sing the Canadian National Anthem, especially since I'm American. And no, it didn't bother me that a Canadian was singing our National Anthem. To tell you the truth, I didn't really think about it. Why is it wrong for a "true, proud Canadian" to sing the American Nat'l anthem on American soil. Are Canadians really that much better than we Americans that you shouldn't ever dare to stoop to our level and sing our crummy National Anthem? I never knew it was a question of who's better than whom.

You guys are kidding right? She sang "God Bless America." not the National Anthem. The last time I checked America wasn't a country, but a continent.

I didn't actually watch the superbowl so I didn't get to see which song was performed and by whom. The purpose of my reply was not to argue over what to call the land mass upon which I live, but rather to inquire what the big deal was surrounding the nationality of the person singing any given song. And the last time I checked, the United States of AMERICA was, in fact, a country

you gotta be kidding me. North America(the continent) is made up of three large countries; United States, Canada, Mexico and the countries of Central America and the Caribbean Islands.

Well, I'm Canadian and I watched it. Yes we did notice Celine Dion singing, and Shania Twain lip syncing. I think the important thing to look at is not where the person is from. Hell I wouldn't be offend if Brittney Spears snag the Canadian Anthem at one of our events. I think it all comes down to money. Celine is on her comback thing and with her Las Vegas thing opening up, the publicity is going to help.

Great Response!

I think that because of the closeness of our two countries, I would feel honored to sing Oh Canada at an event, and am honored that a Canadian sang whatever American song. Besides, it is the 51st state after all.

Oh jeeze, did I say that out loud? :D

It downright chapped my hide.
What pissed me off even more is that I'm pretty sure she was lip-synching it.
But in the grand scheme of commercial chicanery that is the SuperBowl, it turned out that Celine was near the bottom of the list of things that bothered me. Was there a fooball game in there?

Funny, I thought they awarded Canada the Gold Medal in Olympic Men's and Women's Hockey.

Oh jeeze, did I say that out loud?

Figure skating too if I remember right. I've been to Canada, and always liked the place and the people. The best neighbor we could have.
