If you're wanting to modify the car, go with a 5.0 motor. The modular 4.6s are good motors but the aftermarket sucks. If you like the newer body style, go with the 94-95 5 liters, if you like the older body style, like me, go with the 89-93 body styles. The 87-89 (same look as the 89-93) are speed density, unless it was made in Cali. and you have to change it to mass air eventually. Plus the pre 90s had the ugly ass steering wheel.

On the other hand, if you purchase a 98-02 F-body, they do have the highly potential LS1 motor that can be made into an 11-second car without taking the heads and intake off, but the same goes for the DOHC Cobra.

I had an 89 GT That I stole off the dealers lot for $3600 in 1993.
They thought it had a blown motor, a can of system sealer and whalaaa instant bad ass car!
Plus it needed a paint job and a little fender bender got the whole car painted.

You're wanting an older sports car? I was thinking newer.
Unless it was the Shelby 500, I'd go with a 69 Camaro. They're one of the meanest looking cars around, IMO.
