I haven't been to this board in a while and been pretty tired as of late, but couldn't pass up not letting you bros read this. Maybe you'll appreciate it as much as I did:

I was at the hospital today visiting my mom after she had a hysterectomy. While we were talking, she was telling me that the patient next to her had been diagnosed with leukemia and she had four weeks to live.

I was a little afraid to talk to her since I figured she would have been very upset and not wanting to talk to anyone, but as my mom had to leave with the doctor to go walk around, she looked at me and asked how I was doing. I replied saying I was doing pretty good and asking how she was (I felt like an ass after I realized what I said but she didn't know my mom told me she only had a few weeks to live) and she said she felt great. She then said that she didn't really get a chance to speak to my mom and asked what she was in here for and if she was doing okay. I said that she had a hysterectomy and she should be out tomorrow.

As the conversation went on, I tended to stay away from the "How come you're in here?" question because I figured she didn't want to think about it till she came right out and said it. I asked her when she started her chemotherapy and she said she didn't want it. That she was a real religious woman and if it was time for her to go, it's time for her to go.

While she was saying all of this, she had a smile on her face like it didn't bother her. After we discussed that, I told her that I was sorry it had to end like that and how it must really suck and she started laughing. She looked at me and said she lived life to the fullest, did everything she wanted to do and God set the path of her life. Although she was sad to leave everyone for now, she was happy to start another life in Heaven.

I was pretty much speachless. I just looked at her and said I'll say a prayer for you and I wish you the best two weeks ever and she said thank you.

This woman really made me think. If I had been in her shoes, I would have gone nuts knowing I only had a few weeks left here. Granted, she was pretty old, but she earned my respect in those 10-minutes from our conversation and I'm sure God has a place for her in Heaven.

One of the morals to the story is to live life to the fullest because we don't know how much longer we have. I know you hear the, "live life to the fullest speach" a million times a day, but she made sure it really sunk in to me.

I know this may be a ramble to most of you all but I wanted to share it.

That is a beautiful chance meeting you had, Stangman :)
You just never know what kind of message you're going to receive simply by sharing a moment of kindness.

Best wishes to your mom for a fast recovery ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I did.

And thanks, Sachet, for the wishes. :) She's not too mobile right now and she's having some stomach irritation from the pain pills and not eating too much. Hopefully she'll feel better soon.
