I hate to say this but if it is a rotator cuff most likely only surgery will do it. Otherwise I would for the time being avoid any exercises where you open up you AC joint-so do NOT perform any flyes, incline or flat dumbell presses below shoulder level(no big streching) Also take some anti-inflamatories as glucosime will take 4-6 weeks to start working.

bro i hurt my right shoulder 2.5 yrs ago and it took 1 yr to bench again, though i decided to go with dumbells the rest of my life from then on, then last summer i popped my left shoulder going heavy on flat bench wich i said i wouldnt do again bt i wanted to see where i was at for 1 rep max and it popped, this was last summer and my left shoulder is still a mess, you have to work around it bro, alot of noncompound movements more isolation, i still was able to do some shows and won my class in all of them so it can be done, but im not able to pack on the mass i want cuase its been a year now with my left shoulder and still hurts like hell, so shoulders are a tough one but managable to train around

Yeah, my bench has been in the gutter since straining my rotator cuff. Get it checked out. Presser sound like my training partner, doesnt go about 165 on incline, since it bothers his shoulder

I seperated both shoulders at one time or another and have used a Smith Machine for Military Shoulder Presses since.

Definitely go to a doc. My last shoulder injury lasted for 4-5 months before it was back to normal. I injured mine doing dbell presses.

I was out for over a year when I had to have surgery (Rugby Injury) BigShug will tell ya, I could hardly bench 145. With a lot of determination, and working around the problem it doesn't bother me much, and my bench is OK. But having a Distal Clavical Excision costs mucho jack. So take it easy and don't rush it.

my cuff flares up mildly once in a while, and when it does, my doc prescribes arthrotec, I go light and careful for a couple of weeks, and presto, problem fixed.
also, go to a library and read a sports medicine/rehab book. there are many great cuff strenghtening exercises out there that really help. many bb'ers often work hard on the delts, while forgetting all the other small muscles in the shoulders, and presto, a problem develops.
lol, I love saying presto

go see a doc. could be a number of things including rotator cuff, tendonitis, impingement, etc.

good luck!

yes on the rotator cuff exercises, I do them before most all of my workouts...I also do lateral raises/front raises with 5lb. plates - that's usually good for "what the fuck is HE doing" stares.......as long as I warm my shoulders up VERY well before I start my workout, I can usually make it through

Listen to Saks, guys, after his surgery he couldn't even raise his arm up on his own.......you should see him now though, he can raise BOTH arms up whenever he wants to

I partially torn my rotator cuff back in 94

It kept me outta the gym for about 4 or 5 months... Had no pressing strength at all in my right shoulder... Couldn't even push a chair in after getting up from the dinner table...

Went through the whole rehab thing and finally my Doc wanted to go ahead and cut me...

I never wanted to go under the knife because IMO you're never the same... Nomatter how good the Doc is...

As a last resort I asked him about steroids and he quickly shot that idea down...

Well I said F**K HIM! and went and got a bottle of Deca and some D-bol and ran my first ever cycle...

Deca was only 200mg a week for 10 weeks and by week 5 my shoulder was healed completely and I ended up gaining about 32lbs on the cycle...

Pain never came back and I've loved Deca ever since... Maybe I was just one of the lucky ones... Can't say, but it maybe worth a shot if the injury doesn't heal up in 2-3 months...

I messed up my shoulder in late 98 and it still gives me proplems. I can or better yet I don't do any flat bench, but I can do inclines and declines. I hear allot of lifters don't do any flat bench. I get a killer workout from declines anyway. You can get a shot into your shoulder (can't remember the name it's like cortisill or something like that) guys tell me that have got it, it works fast but it only lasts like8 to 12 months, also said it hurts like hell getting it. I know just how you feel man it sucks. good luck
