Wisdom Teeth Removal - Diet question

I went to the dentist today and on Monday I have to get 4 wisdom teeth removed. Obviously, I will be unable to eat anything for 3-4 days.

Any advice on keeping protein intake up? I have plenty of protein powder. Is 6 scoops a day (=120 grams) too much?

Instead of gorging on icecream and milkshakes all day, any suggestions of healthy liquid foods?

P.S:, Tuesday is my birthday - it will be the worst birthday ever.

Try and get as much liquid food in you as you can, assuming you want to keep your calories up afterwards, because if you don't, the several days without eating will cause your eating capacity to decrease! Having my wisdom teeth out about 3 years ago actually helped me get started on losing 110 lbs (I lost the 1st 10 lbs from being miserable with my teeth out).

You might want to see about doing ground beef crumbled up or something, too, if you can do it. Some sort of whole food source that doesn't really require chewing

My biggest problems were that the pain meds made me sick, and I ended up with a dry socket, which hurt like hell for a couple weeks

I drank a ton of protien shakes when I had mine out......Saks tried to make me drink beer at Trotters, but I was in pain to say the least and had to call it an early night

I had my impacted wisdom teeth removed. I swear I never ever felt pain like that, no shit.

Wisdom tooth removal varies greatly for everyone. It depends on the level of impaction (if any) and how erupted they are into the mouth. Some extractions are so easy, you can get away with normal advil dosage and eat normal food very soon. Some hurt like hell and youre restricted to a soft diet for a while and maybe some naracotic analgesics.
Either way, stay away from smoking, straws, and giving blow jobs. Hopefully two out of the three will be easy.
YOu can blenderize anything for the long haul if you have to . Also, protein shakes should be a normal part of your diet anyways.

Koss I had to have a bit of my jaw removed to get the teeth out. It was nasty, had it done like real surgery in the hospital with a 2 day stay and all. Something like 60 something stiches, was a bad time.

i gotta get my upper 2 out in 3 weeks. my bottom 2 are nonexistent which is nice. so mine shouldn't be too bad, it should help dieting also :p

An impaction means that the tooth is stuck on something and very frequently its the bone that the tooth usually erupts through. If youre jaw is very small the wisdom tooth develops the the ramus of your mandible (the vertical rather than the horizontal part where the other teeth are). Then to get it out they have to remove a good deal of bone. If they arent careful, they can severly weaken your jaw and predispose it to fractures.
It happens... Some oral surgeons are dual certified meaning that they are both dentists and MD's. Which means that for serious cases theyre hospitalize you and do the procedure in the OR.

Thanks for your help

Thanks for your help guys. It's only 12 hours til my appointment. I'll tell you how it all goes - pain, diet, weight loss.
I'm a bit nervous about the pain after the procedure (I assume I'll be high as a kite during it). The painkillers I'm going to be on are Anaprox which isn't nearly as powerful as Percocet or Vicadin, which I wanted.
