Muscle Seperation: How to get it?

Muscle seperation: How to get it?

I think this is one of those things best achieved by maximally contracting the muscle during the movement and at the end of the movement. The problem I see is most people go so heavy they can not really squeeze the muscle during and at the end of the movement. Which is why I preach using something a little lighter when training for a show.

How long you have been training also has something to do with it but I really think how you training makes the biggest difference. What is your guys opinion on the topic?

Oh sure you have to be lean to see it but I have seen guys very lean with shitty seperation.

Ya know, I am going to disagree with you on this one.

I think muscle separation has more to do with muscle SIZE than anything. If your quads aren't big, they aren't going to be all that separated. The bigger they get, the more separated they become. I think training style or technique plays a trivial part.

Just my opinion.......

mmm...well I have seen some light weights and middle weights who have shoulder muscles that look like someone just placed them there. They really stand out. I have also seen some very big guys who have no shoulders. They just blend into there arms! Size has something to do with it but not such a large percentage...just my two cent.

Agree 100%. It took me 4 years of hard training before I had the lateralis/intermedialis/medialis splits. My bodyfat % did not change appreciably during that timeframe.

I dont know I think some time the bigger guys lose some of the seperation, king Kamali comes to mind in an old flex mag had picks of him competing at like 190 striations and seperation every where not at all like today. seems a lot of pros lose the striations even if they are just as lean as they were when smaller.

Sounds like...

Titan,

Sounds lke you're saying spot reduction works?... Or are you saying that lifting style shaps the muscle to give "separation?..."

Perosonally, I think it is a matter of:

-Muscle structure / shape - genetically determined
-Low subq fat overlying the muscles in question
-Muscle size - since muscle have round bellies, and increase in diameter, two larger muscles will have a deeper groove between them, i.e., greater separation.

I am saying that have big muscles is one thing but having muscles that really stand out and up is another matter. I know someone at my gym who has large arms and low body fat but his bicep and tricep just blend into his shoulders. While I also know someone a little smaller but who trains really hard and does full range of motion with real full contractions and has great muscle seperation. His muscles just stand out. His shoulders are very round. His triceps do not blend into his biceps. He is lean but the seperation of his muscles is awsome. I hope my point is being understood. Oh, I do not believe in spot reducing or spot shooting.

OOOOHHHH, you mean..... muscle size. hehe

Come on brother titan, you are thinking about this FAR too deeply. The bigger the muscle, the more detail you will have, the more separation you will have and the more the shape of that muscle will be accentuated.

Otherwise, you are implying that training can change the shape of a muscle to grow either up or out or whatever. Now, you wouldn't say something like that, would you? :D

Gotcha......

I'm comin' for ya Skip!

Skip,

Yep, that sig line brought me here, actually. (And I think you mentioned "your board" once or twice... ;) )

I'll check the main board ASAP. Next week is "vacation," so I'll probably be fairly prolific - postign on the boards and improving my tan.... A man must have ambitions.

I have to go with titan on how i acheive my seperation, i have gone through alot of various things trial and error and have come to find out that maximal concentration, or holding at the top of leg extensions for example is what realy brought out my seperation,

And the debate continues......

You DID see how Randy got here, right? ;)

I'm working the boards, bro. I am hoping to see a small jump in registration the week after my show on June 28th. Max Muscle will be passing out a significant amount of my business carbs with free Max Muscle shaker cups and protein drinks during the show.

does max muscle sponsor you Skip? Well the muscle seperation thing is always going to be a combination of several things. Size is important but don't for I have seen small guys with great seperation. I have also seen big guys with no seperation and.........my grandma has freaky muscle seperation! So there! :D

business carbs, skip? I have no idea what you have on your mind, lol

Yep, just teasing him that he has carbs on his mind during his cutting (I know I do) :D

Max Muscle as a franchise does NOT sponsor me. I am sponsored by a local Max Muscle store. I know the owner and he gives me my supps at a retardedly small price and training gear to wear to shows and to train in. In return, of course, I tell everyone how great Max Muscle products are and refer them to his store. He ships ANYWHERE too, so you don't have to walk into the store to get Max Muscle products. I also work his booth at the area shows unless I am competing.

So, yes, I am 'sponsored' but not under any kind of official contract or endorsement deal or anything like that.

He also helps me to promote TEAMSKIP and indirectly, this site.

If anyone is interested in Max Muscle supps, please contact me and I will give you the contact info. It is fast and easy and comes to your door.
