Anybody have chickens.
I am eating about 16-18 eggs a day - perhaps I should get some chickens.
How many layers do I need to get 18 eggs a day? anyone know?

Screw the chickens and get yourself a couple of female ostriches.

sounds like you just need to become good friends with a chicken farmer!

My grandmother used to own a chicken farm. God the smell, it is still burnt into my nose. It will never go away. Nasty stinkin birds, trust me it is much better to buy the eggs in bulk after they have been processed. The cost is well worth it for me.

Do you have a super Wal-Mart near? Ours always has 18 eggs for a $1. I've had chickens before, and by the time you buy them, build a way to house them, and feed them, I don't think you'll be able to beat 5.6 cents per egg at Wal-Mart.

Eighteen eggs a day is only about 125 grams of protein. You can cut-out half of the eggs, add about 2 1/3 scoops of whey protein, and still be consuming about the same protein. Eighteen eggs is just excessive.

My dad has a farm. We have chickens there. It's pretty cheap. If you have an incubator you can order 150 nearborns for under $50. NOTE: Most WILL DIE! But with some care a lot will survive. Just build a coop to put them in and feed them left over and spoiled foods. You'll get an egg a day per chicken. We always have extra eggs and just have to give them away. They taste better than supermarket eggs too...but anyways, this is way too hard just to get some eggs cheap. Just pay the $1.25 a day for a dozen eggs.

I was raised on a farm. The neighor had a chicken farm, Stinks and way too much work. Not to mention you need to place them someplace that can protect them from predators. Nothing worse than a fox in the pin.

My neighbor had pidgeons and a fox got in there killed every one probably close to 100.
