Why do you think Cutler uses Apple Sauce?

Cutler did an interview for Musclemag and in the interview he stated that he carb loads 100grams on thursday and friday and he uses only white rice and applesauce. My question is can anyone think of or know of the reason of why he would applesauce. I know a half cup contains approx: 40 grams of carbs. I know it would be easy to eat and digest, is there any other reason why he would use applesauce instead of say yams?
Just wondering.

You are probably the only guy on the boards that I don't have to explain that one to, huh? lol

HMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!
Sorry dp if you took affence to this ??? I had at one time inquired to weather or not I should use applesauce in my prep .. I had never asked why Cutler would use it. Cutler wrote an article for Musclemag in which he stated that he used apple sauce in his prep. So I looked to the members of the board for there knowledge. Maybe I am wrong in doing so, but I was under the impression that we all want to learn from each other?? I am sorry if I offended anyone by asking this question.

My best guess is that applesauce is used to refill liver glycogen stores. Applesauce is high in fructose, a type of carb that can *only* refill liver glycogen stores. Rice, on the other hand, is converted to glucose and preferentially refills muscle glycogen stores. Liver glycogen, of course, is used to maintain stable blood sugar levels.

Additionally, Cutler is probably doing a (carb) depletion workout prior to starting a carb-up. The applesauce (taken a couple of hours before a carb-up) would help upregulate glycolytic enzymes, making the process more efficient.

You guys are over complicating it. I've met and talked with Jay before. Actaully, I trained and had lunch with the guy at MuscleCamp this past July. The reason he eats white rice and apple sauce is because his body responds well to extremely high carbs. In order to get in 1,000 grams of carbs daily, he eats a lot of simple carbs that are easy to put down and don't fill you up...along with his complex carbs. Try getting 1,000 grams of carbs from clean complex carbs like oatmeal (it would take more than 20 cups a day!) or yams, etc. That's why he eats apple sauce, honey, etc. He told me he eats white rice because he doesn't notice a difference in the way his body responds from brown. I was surprised to hear him say that. Check his web site out. It has a break down of his diets... jaycutler.com

I think the reason to use apple sauce is to resote the glucogen levels in your liver, any fruite based sauce will be mostly fructose for carbohydrates..fructose main function is to restore glucogen levels in your liver, once those levels are full, your body can concentrate on trensporting the gremaining glucogen into muscle cells and storing it there, which is the essence of carb loading...i presonally prefer fat loading over carbs...maybe because i did carb loading 4 weeks ago and seem to have spilled over a bit...good luck...XXL
