Does anything supress dreams?

Anyone know of something that will keep you from dreaming, but still allow a good night's sleep?

Alcohol works wonders. Just try some PM's. Usually they'll knock you out hard and you don't remember them.

Try valiums too. I don't suggest vicodin, for this stuff actually make me dream more.

hypnosil, lol that was the made up stuff they had in Freddy Vs Jason so the kids wouldn't dream.

I don't know of anything, maybe listening to some of that relaxing new age music or something to really get you relaxed.

Why exactly do you want to "suppress" these dreams?? What are these dreams about that are so bad that you don't want to dream?? Why not consider seeing a psychiatrist about something like this??

Yes I agree, I believe your dreams are a reflection of something going on in your life. If your dreams are that bad body2see is right maybe you need some help other than pills :)
Good luck

Some reports suggest that guanfacine (Tenex) can suppress PTSD dreams - don't know about other kind of dreams.

Yes. I've heard of clonidine (similar drug) being used this way too. Also I know somebody who says Depakote took away her posttraumatic dreams.

SSRIs (and Effexor) decrease the amount of time spent in REM sleep, but they also increase REM density (number of eye movements) and the number of nighttime awakenings. (It's possible to wake up very briefly without ever remembering that you did; this can increase dream recall.) These drugs typically cause very vivid dreams and are not the best choice for someone with a REM sleep disorder.

Amphetamines, anticholinergics (such as amitriptyline and protriptyline), and MAOIs are the best REM suppressors (which is why they are the most effective drugs for narcolepsy).

melatonin works great I take it 1/2 hour b4 bed when I fall asleep I am so deep alseep I do not dream hope this helps
good luck

Thanks all. I'm sure I'm over the PTSD, and the dreams don't have to do with any of that stuff. I keep having dreams about my ex, and I am so tired of it. I really don't know why it keeps happening, never did after my first divorce. I'm just tired of it. I feel like I've moved on in waking life, but the dreams persist. Been seperated for 2 years and divorced for over one year.
I didn't notice a difference when taking melatonin, but I just sarted taking hydroxytryptophan maybe that will help, by increasing seratonin levels. Otherwise I'll just have to get used to it, not worth doing amphetimines, I don't get enough sleep as it is.

My trouble sleeing is mostly just what you get from gear these days. The troubles of the past dont really impinge on my everyday life. That's the past.
I guess without dreams there is no REM sleep.

Dreams... what a curious thing.
