I'm a Mets and Rangers fan and will be the first to admit that they are a bunch of morons as an organization and hopefully will learn from free agent flocks from the past years. But what I hate more than anything else is when a Yankees fan says that the Yankees have the hights payroll in sports but it's well spent. Oh really?? check out the following players salaries who do not contribute squat to the team.

Jose Contreras- $ 5.5 million/year (if anyone argues that this is well spent is a moron!)

Stenve Karsay- $5 million/year (has he pitched in the past 2 years?)

Jeff Weaver- $4.125 million/year (this guy makes about 1 million per win)

Gabe White- $3.2 million/year

Antonia Osuna- $2.4 million/year

Mike Mussina- $12 million/year (he's good but not worth that kind of money)

Chris hammond- $2.2 million/year

And as good as Giambi is, I don't think that he is worth $11.5 million/year.


So don't say that the Yankees payroll is well spent. They do have some players that are very good and deserve their salaries and get them the wins they have but they as an organization are also guilty of spending ridiculously.

Taking Mussina and Giambi out of it because they both produce I will admit that what you mentioned is @ 24million out of a total of 155 million payroll(15% dead money) That is most likely better than most teams.....The amounts are just larger, Just my opinion but based on facts.
