FLU vaccines...

You'll be fine.

I read that one day people may be injected with the HIV virus before it's ever contracted. It's just tough finding people willing to test this out.

I've had them and seem to have steered clear from the flu. Though it's tough to say if I would have gotten sick either way. I figure, what's it gonna hurt?

I've gotten the flu vac every year from 1988-2002. Before '88 I always got the flu once a year.

Between 88 and 02, the only year I did not get the vac was the year I was pg with first child. Let me tell you, I got the flu and was SO SICK!!! I *wanted* to go to the hospital. I thought I was gonna die!

In my experience - when I do get the vac - I don't get the flu.

I will cross the desert to get that flu vaccine. I'm getting mine next week.

My son has asthma and it's highly recommended that he get the flu vaccine, but he's also allergic to egg so that counts him out of getting the shot. Right now part of the reason I get the vaccine is so that I don't bring the flu home to him - poor fella.

You supposdly can't get sick fom the vaccine because the virus in it is dead. You will be ok!
Some vaccines require a certain number of live virus in order to provoke the intended immune responses, that's why sometimes after ppl get certain vacc's they get sick, usually those with already depressed immune systems, as far as the flu vacc it depends on which strains they are covering for that season weather live viri are included or if all are dead. ( I used to have to work in the infectious disease ward at the county hospital, fun, fun) Me personally being young and not prone to getting sick I dont get them, If I do get the flu it useually is very mild and then I'm naturally vaccinated.

About 4 years ago i got one at work and didnt even catch a cold that winter so when ever they offer it iam running down to get mine asap.I heard they have it in nazel spray you know iam scared of needles bawhahahahah.

When I was stil in the Marines They gave me that F*^king shot every year. Every year I got the flu with in weeks of getting the shot.
I've been out for 6 years now and haven't had the flu once.

one more important that was not mentioned it only takes effect in 3-5 weeks. just thought you should know that...

I dont think that was an actual "flu" shot they gave you in the Marines LOL!! You can rest assured that it was some experimental vaccination and or test drug, thats what I would be willing to guess!!

You are probably right. Maybe that's why I'm a little "off" center.
The Marine Corps did it to me!!:p

Im sure I will be fine, i realize that...but what Im wondering is does the vaccine in actuality have a positive effect...and if so...what are member's experiences with it?? This is the 1st flu vaccine I have ever taken, i've always turned them down in the past..so I guess thats more along the lines of what im looking 4.

Certainly you'll be fine *lol*
Unless you're allergic to eggs..

This year's vacine only covers 3 strands of the flu.. there's over a hundred strands of the flu out there..
It takes 3 to 5 weeks to take effect & if you had already contracted the virus during that period, you will come down with it.
Also, if you contract any of the other strands of the flu, you will still come down with the flu, but it won't be as severe.

I get a shot every year so that I don't bring it into the older people I visit, plus..
...I can't afford the time to be sick.

OoOoh yeah.. one more lil thingy.

If you're using steroids.. get the shot.
Your immune system is weaker.
