Happy Guy Fawkes night/bonfire night!
Today is the day that we English remember/celebrate, with fireworks and bonfires, the anniversary of "The Gunpowder Plot!"
Yes thats right, for some reason we celebrate the fact that a group of Catholics led by Guy Fawkes decided they'd had enough of hiding away in secret hideouts (at this time it was illegal to be Catholic and punishable by death) and where going to come out and blow up West Minster while King James and his parliament were in session! Unfortunately for them they were caught, tried for treason and Catholisism and hung, drawn and quartered! What a happy occasion eh?
Anyway it's an excuse to pig out on pie and peas, parkin, bonfire toffee, toffee apples etc, watch some nice fireworks displays and partake in our national pass time of getting ridiculously drunk!!!:D

I've never known any Brits that needed an excuse for those. :D

Especially the drunk part. :D

No we don't need an excuse, it just kind of helps ease the conscience you know! Actually we'd be more likely to need an excuse not to drink as it is bordering on criminal to have a social gathering and not get morbidly drunk, make passes at inappropriate people, have a fight, make up,have another fight, become best mates and share a kebab:D
