Good mourning all. With all the members on this board from all over the world I thought it would be a good place to solicit ideas for a start up business. I am an out of work mechanical engineer living in Maine. Been out of work for about 9 months now. I want to stay here but the economy sucks and there is no work. No matter, ideally I would love to own my own business. I just can't think of a really good idea with a hig probobilityof sucess. I have a good amount of capital for start up but I want to have a reasonable level of comfort that it will suceed. So, are there any ideas out there that people have seen / done in other areas that may work here?

Bro if you dont already then you need to get a subscription to "Entrepreneur" it has loads of business start up idea, franchise buy ins, and fantastic articles for those who already have a business and ways to stay afloat, cut over head, i mean you name it this magazine has it, for me it is an inspirational tool reading about others making millions from scratch.

The best business now adays isnt a new business type but rather taking old busines ideas and practices and making them better! Thats where the money is at. Find your nich and a business type thats well known or established then mold it into your own idea the kind of idea that makes people thinnk "WHY DIDNT I THINK OF THAT" it is all about 99% banging away/persistance and 1% good luck.

The internet is where it is at, though it may take years to build a succesful business, one day you mght find yourself rolling out of bed,walking to your office, puling up you bank account and finding you have made 2k$ while you slept, realistic you ask? You bet ya!

First step though, go grab that magazine bro, then read some, then come back here and tell me your not inspired by it and Ill give you your money back you paid for it!

I have read that mag before and it is awesome!

The internet is by far the best opportunity for wealth, but many of people have failed misrably trying to achieve this. The key is something different, and advertising!
 
I would like to start a business to, but I have no money to do it. So I'll just keep going to school and working for someone else.

I used to work for someone else, making them a fortune..Then I got layed off, woke up and decided to take control of my life and finances and go into business for myself...It's nice to have my life back and spend time with my son..Like Presser said..do your homework on what is right for you...watch out for the front-end load deals, where they want you to buy a shitload of products and then try to sell it yourself...All you end up with is a garage full of stuff and a bank account that is getting smaller. Been there and done that!
 
Internet porn sites turn a huge profit. Find some women willing to bear it all and put them on the web. I know of two guys in Michigan making millions doing this. Set it up near a college.
 
Porn sites do turn a huge profit........ But I don't think my GF would react so well to me being the pimpmaster of some porn site....
 
Perhaps you could market something like a "Girls Gone Wild" but only with men in it. C'mon, you don't see that at all. Great idea IMO. Men bearing it all for YOU! lol

Thanks all. Presser, got the mag, this month is all about frachises. I considered Quiznos recently. There is some good info printed. My real passions are motorcycles (especially road racing), lifting (not a good mix, 1 wants me to be small & light the other big & heavy) and porn. Not necessarily in that order. I do live in a college town, maybe I could recruit some poor college girls for porn! Ahhhh that's the ticket.
 
lol, u guys are crazy, as for the porn site, they send you discs full of women photos that you can upload to ur website, most of the work is done for ya, i was considering a small posrn site and hanging a banner right here in testosterone town,lol, but to cheesy for me.

and bilter there is alot of good reading in this months, yes alot of franchises though, I do like the putting green you sell, where I live they would eat them up, instead of the traditional tennis court in the back yard and in apartment complexes, hell I would put a nice putting green in my back yard , would be cool for get togethers and such, did you see that one? I think the buy in was 5k, im not sure if you just sell or have any part in installation, i would think just sell them for a commision and then they install

Lasts monts was very good as well, i look forward to next mnth as well, if the fucking mailman doesnt fold it in 9 differet direction again to get it in my mailbox, the prick!
 
I had a sports nutritopn store and mail order biz for awhile simultaniously with my real carreer.....man that will run ya ragged.. Ive worked for our Gowernment for 22 yrs now.....your taxes at work!
 
Bro-The best way is to do what you love and turn it into a business. When you get outside of your area of epertise you are more likely to miss a detail. Find a way to make money off of the bikes-lifting or porn.
