Hey IT Guys

I happened to notice that there a few IT managers on. I have a laptop issue that my IT group cannot seem to fix (they are IBM and useless). I recently changed servers at work, but my automatic synchronization is automatically looking at the old server. I can't find a way to change the address to the new server. Anyway you guys can help me without actually being here? In case it matters, I'm running on XP.

hum...don't know, did you try turning off the proxy?

**Big Blank Stare**

Did I mention that I'm definitely no techie? I have no idea what you mean by the proxy.

Hmm...I'm not to familiar with networking on XP....We use win2k, NT, and we used to use Novell at my office.

I'll have to research it a bit....I'll let you know what I find.

"I recently changed servers at work, but my automatic synchronization is automatically looking at the old server."

Are you referring to your email that is not syncing up to the Exchange Server or are you trying to map network drives off the new Servers or are you trying to VPN into the new server???

I am more a unix person, however I know a somewhat about Windows NT.

I'm not sure that I'm trying to do any of the things you've noted. There is an option in XP which allows you to automatically synchronize offline folders whenever you shut down. Right now that function is set to look at my old server, and I can't figure out how to change the server that it's looking at. The option is in "Synchronization Manager." When I open that, the server is already noted, but it's the wrong server.

SuzyQ,

Not sure if this will answer your question, please check it out.

On your laptop, try the following:

Click on "Start"
Click on "My Computer"

In the "My Computer" dialog box, click on the "Tools" menu at the top and drop down to "Folder Options..", click on it.

In the "Folder Options" dialog box, click on the "Offline Files" tab, go to the bottom and click on "Advanced".

In the "Offline Files - Advance Settings", you should see (I hope) the name of the server, your laptop is downloading files from when you are offline. If so, click on the "ADD" button and enter the name of the new server, you are getting files from and if that works, I would remove the old server from that list if you see it.

This is a curious question, I will query the server guys at work tomorrow about this.

All you have to do is enter the path to the old server and select the option to automatically synchronize offline folders.
But make sure you have the correct path entered.

Good luck...

I was hoping! I managed to add my server, but it still didn't change my synchronization properties. I'm still pointing to the old server. I even rebooted. Thanks for the efforts!

Where can I enter the path? I can't find a screen that allows me to enter anything. All I see is my old server listed, with no options to re-enter anything.

Hmm...I would imagine when you log into the new server it should try to sync your files to the new server rather than the old server...is it connected to the network and are you logged in?

OR is it a different file server than your exchange server?

I'm sure it's some kind of configuration issue. I am connected to our network over the broadband from our house, and with the LAN when I'm at work. Even though I'm logged in under my new server name, the Synchronization Manager is still looking for the old server. I might try an email to the IT guy who originally moved my files to the new server.

It is possible that your offline files and folders have been setup using Group Policies by your IT department. If this is the case, then they may have to change the settings for you in the Group Policy.

I was thinking that it is probably a setting that I can't change. I did send an email to one of our support team, but in general they really suck. They work directly for IBM instead of the company, and their "support" is pretty non-existent!

btw- i hope you don't work for IBM!
