All I can say is it's probably good for contest prep. But if your using it to slim down for any other purposes don't bother. I tried it for 4 weeks and lost a little over 20pds but as soon as I started introducing carbs back into my diet slowly it seemed that it almost instantly returned. It my be benificail for contest prep though. your choice, my opinion.
 
You have a good point. Weight lost from low carb dieting seems to be easily gained back when you go back to a normal diet. To minimize this, most people increase their carb count very slowly

There are some of recent studies profiled in Muscular Development that suggest that the Ketogenic diet is very effective for weight loss and minimizing muscle catabolism while dieting.
