I think I want to get into the feild.....weekend and evening job when I go back to school. I hear ACE cert is the one to start off with right? Can anyone tell me how to go about this, whats involved,etc....Thanks

if it's a side job then you'd probably like it, but it mostly depends on the demand for personal trainers where you live. i'm training my third client and she's doing pretty well, she's lost 16lbs in 3 weeks naturally. i'd say the best part about the job is the feeling you get when you change someone's life. you can see it in thier smile and the way they talk, thier just happier.

....bump. Come on guys I now alot of your are PT's. Throw me a bone here, let me know how you got started and any recomendations.

i'm not certified...i'm getting my masters in exercise and sports science. of the people i've trained, i knew two of them before helping them, and the current girl is a friend of one of the other girls i trained.

I never got certified either. I simply trained people who wanted to change free of charge. The ever lasting friendships and grattitude are worth it!

The trainers at my gym are all ACE certified. They charge about $40/hr here.......with the initial lesson free. He uses the free lesson to blow smoke up there ass's and sell them on his service......It's sales picth time.......then he gets them to comit to 8 sessions via contract. He does well. You have to have a great influential personality. You must be inspiring and you will do well.
It's sales........Sell them on the fact that you know more than they do and that your going to change there lives.

I am ISSA certified, its nothing to it and its a wel recognized certificate as well, You dont need a cert to train unless u work for a gym, but if ur freelance training then no one gives a shit so long as you look the part and know your shit, the field is huge here in jersey, all the trainers i know make a living at it and not just a living but live very very well , with nice mortgages and nce cars, jags, and shit, bt like i said it is huge in jersey

it's really worth it just to make a change in someone's life, but your income will probably be based on the demand there is for personal trainers where you live. and like presser said, as long as you don't work in a gym as a personal trainer you only need to look the part. i worked at gold's and still trained those other two girls i knew for free, just showed them the ropes for like 3 weeks and wrote up a diet for them. since i saw them so often i could answer any questions they had or change something really often.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna check into those two certs see what's required, not trying to make a living off it, well not long term anyway. I know now that if I have trouble here I'm one bridge and 15 min from Jersey, you gonna hook me up Press.......lol.

I have both certifications ISSA and ACE, and to be honest, the ACE was harder than the ISSA. But ti really doesn't mean squat to most people except when you are looking to work in a gym- I don't recommend this- I did it for 8 years, and I got fucked royally because we only got 40% of the training package profits, the club got the other 60%. It just did not make sense even getting paid $20.00/hr.
I went independent for a few years and that went ok but then my clients moved away or found it too hard to keep consistent. I demand all my cleints understand that is this is not an easy thing- its not only about working out, doing cardio, eating right but a total lifestyle change that you must be consistent in order for them to see what they are working for.
I train clients when I have a chance, but these days its hard with work, shows, etc. If I thought I could make a decent living at it, I would do it full time, but here in Texas people like to eat and it shows from a few Texas cities being the fattest cities. Also we have a largo Latino/Mexican mix here and for them personal training isn't something they always have money for. Family, food, other priorities come first.
