Here is what they told me:
The Stericup filter units are very easy to use. You just need one of them
and a hand vacuum pump (which comes with tubing). You basically just put
one end of the tubing on the vacuum pump and one on the Stericup unit. Fill
the top of the Stericup unit with whatever solution you want to filter and
then use the vacuum pump to create a pressure of about 20-25 in Hg (Do not
exceed 27 in Hg). Then just walk away and let it work. You will need to
check on the vacuum pressure every now and then to pump it up.
Some people prefer to use a Steritop unit with a glass media bottle so we
offer this option as well. The glass media bottle is autoclavable and
reusable.
For thick solutions with particulate matter, it's recommended to use a
prefilter which is placed right on top of the filter membrane in the
Stericup and Steritop units. If you are doing a lot of filtering you may
want more than one prefilter in case it clogs up.
For your situation, you have a couple of options:
Combo 1: Handpump, Stericup 150, 2 Additional Stericup Flasks 150,
Prefilter if necessary.
This option works by filtering until one flask is full and then just
switching it out for an empty one. If the solution will eventually be
rebottled into 10 or 20 ml in the future this may be the way to go. The
bottom of the Stericup is a flask that comes with a screw on top to seal.
Combo 2: Handpump, Stericup 500, Prefilter if necessary, 3 200ml Sealed and
Sterilized serum bottles.
Filter the solution and then rebottle into 200ml vials. Make sure to use a
needle to vent the vials when filling. If you wanted you could use a
smaller Stericup and filter, rebottle, filter, rebottle. This does,
however, have a greater chance of compromising the sterility of the
solution.
If you have any other questions, let me know.
