any mobile phones expert on the board?

I need some technical help..my father brought back from the states a cute nokia cellular phone,this phone hasent arrived yet in italy so i would really like to use it even because my old phone is so old it looks like a walkie-talkie so to be really honest i would really like to impress people wiyh a brand new nokia ,but unfortunately american and european cellular phones do not work on the same frequencies so the phone aint working right now.
Does anibody knowh if it's possible to switch frequencies without spending more than what the phone it's worthed?
i emailed nokia italy but i ain't got an answer yet...
P.S:before you ask it's a nokia model 3100 blue,very nice little phone indeed

2 things......do an internet search for a techie that does that sort of thing......Your in italy...one of the 4 great underground economies of the world....surely you have a ug net connection to trade phones or get other ug stuff done.

Yes i tought the same thingh and i did a search,it seems that all underground technicians are busy working with xbox and ps2
