I know you can collect if you get layed off and in some cases get fired.

Under which circumstances can you get fired AND collect unemployment?

And are there any circumstances that you can collect if you quit? Something like distress?

It's doubtful that you can quit and collect unemployment...You can get fired in some instances and collect unemployment. I believe it has to do with giving proper notification of a wrong doing. Bump for more info!

That is true. There might be some very slim cases that unemployment was given to a person who quits, but in the end it is a benefit for individuals that have been layed off or fired. (Hince you had no control on the situation and need assistance)

It varies according to the state you are in. In some states if the employer commits or permits the committing of acts that "would shock the conscience" to the extent that remaining in the employment would lead to sickness or extreme moral outrage (reasonableness standard) then discontinuing the employment would not release the employer from obligation to pay unemployment.

You should ask Missy b/c she been on it for the past 2 years!!

oh lord pmp is over here too!!! lol just kidding bro....glad to see ya!!

Definitly you can collect if you are fired for something other than the committing of a crime (stealing from the co). If you quit you can collect but there is a waiting period (9weeks I think, depends on your state). I was fired, ended up collecting for 38 weeks. trouble is my state only pays $283 week max. My salary was 1350 / week. Now thats a cut in pay!

States vary I was layed off by an ambo co. and was collecting while I was trying to find a new job. Dept of Economic Services called my former employeer and they flat out lied and said I quit! I then recieved a letter from the DES and reported that the funds I recieved were fraudulant and that I now owe back plus interest! When I called from DES on speaker phone and asked my employeer why he said I quit his response was that it would cost his insurance $750 and that his ins would raise a couple bucks a month and he didnt want to pay for it. The DES case workers mouth dropped but even w/ his admission of falsifying my case they said AZ being a right to work state I was still going to be held responsible for the bill!!! So be careful and find out exactly what the laws for your particular state is and document everything!!!
