Diet Ideas

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to improve my diet.
I dont think i get enough calories a day.
For example today I had
Breakfast : Instant Breakfast Shake
Lunch: (1) Boneless Chicken/ 1/2 cup Salad/ Babybell Cheese and Limeade
Dinner- 6' cold cut trio sub on hearty italien bread and apple juice.

I feel full but i am not sure if i am getting enough calories. It seems like it would be a very low amount.

I also was wondering about ideas for healthy foods
I am a very very very picky eater.
I dont usually eat alot for breakfast cause it makes me feel sick if i do.

Any information would be useful

Any suggestions on a bread thats kind of like white bread that i could eat??
I really love white bread but i heard it is really really bad for me.
I do not like seeds or anything on my bread but i am looking for a healthier alternative.

Thanks

15,000 cals? yea right, probably around the 600-800cals...Not 15,000. That's a carb load of at least 3-4days....Let's get serious now, someone needs help, we ought help not joke around like that....

I'm hoping one of the female vets can help this little lady out with her diet :)

I agree that the Cold-Cut-Trio on White Bread is a bad choice.

Processed Cheese
Processed Meat
Processed White Bread
Loads of Fatty Mayonnaise

(Nothing Natural/Clean)

It doesn't seem like you are getting enough calories if you plan on working out with weights and doing cardio.

Obviously you missed the typo in fitchicks post- 6 foot sub for dinner. Anywho, I agree lets help her out.

Fitchick, I would really recommend trying to get in 5-6 small healthy meals a day. Also if your dead set on a white bread try sourdough if you like that.

Ezekiel has some good breads - they are natural and found in the stores like Whole Foods in the frozen section. There are also some low carb white varieites out there like Sara Lee. I think as someone else said, you don't enough meals.. you need to be eating 5-6 meals a day which is every 2-3 hours. I would like see more protein in your diet- more turkey, fish, chicken, eggs. You can also add things like peanut butter to your shake in the morning or incorporate oatmeal in your morning meals. I would also get into the habit of preparing meals a head of time and packing them in easy heatable containers... it will be a plus for you in the long run.

Sample Daily Meals:

:) Remember, this is a sample diet and you can modify it by switching in and out foods with things that you like better!

1 Banana
1 Tablespoon of Peanut Butter
1 Cup of Skim Milk
Mix that all up in a Blender for a nice smoothie!

OR

1 Glass Skim Milk
1 Slice Whole Grain Toast with All Natural Peanut Butter
2 Eggs
1 Banana

Snack:
Glass of Skim Milk

Slice of Whole Grain Bread (With Margarine)
Steamed Brocolli
Glass of Cold Water

Snack:
Small Bowl of Pretzels
Glass of Cold Water

Ideas for substitues:

Snack Substitutes:
- Granola Bars

I'll try to find some more fun food ideas for you and post them up here!

Oat bread is the closest in taste but not in texture of all the natural breads to white bread.
It took me 4 months to get used to the roughage and taste of whole wheat, whole rye, and other whole grain breads, but now I do not like white bread. You have to check labels also, most so called whole grains are just as bad as white bread.

Yes.

Look on the label for: Soluable & Insoluable Fibre.

You want a bread that has more Soluable Fibre and Less Insoluable.

Your body can't use Insoluable fibre and it's just as bad as white bread.

If the label only says 4g Fibre and doesn't say what's soluable/insoluable....... You can bet it's all the bad kind.

i would stay away from processed meats because they have a lot of nasty peservatives such as nitrates that gives it that nice red color in meats...

if you are craving starchy foods or carbs, try a wrap or pita instead of the bread, or a half cup of brown rice with a bit of olive oil.

however, someone mentioned popcorn...doesnt popcorn have a high GI, is it ok for precontest dieting, i am curious...
thanks guys

some other great foods...

fat free, PLAIN yogurt (read the lable... the less ingredients the better)

Almonds

Berries

Small red beans

Cantalope

Crunchy fruits and veggies (why crunchy?... generally less sugar)

...Hope this helps.

what would you guys say to dempsters 12 grain breads? Good Stuff or what.

And if you just want extra calories put vegetable oil in your morning shake, i usually put in a 1/4 cup, that's a few hundred calories.

ok- you all are probably going to think I'm a dork... but please explain GI to me- are we talking digestive system here, or something else. Please put this newbie in the know. :)

so cantaloupe is high GI and berries are not? How does that work? Should I start a new thread about this topic... it really interests me- but we are swaying slightly from the origional post.

Thanks for the info! I'll have to read up on this!

OK- i did som research about high GI... Cantaloupe sits at 64. Here are some otherwise "good foods" with high GI... it may surprise some. I'm not going to stop eating them until I learn otherwise, but if it is something that concerns you, you may want to check it out...
