How many ml should you run through the whatman filter before you change to a new one?

Go by feel, you'll notice as it becomes clogged. Also, make sure you run 2 ml of oil thru the filter AFTER you are done filtering the gear. This helps push out the gear that is remaining in the filter.

just one more question..
out of curiosity-what is the purpose of the filtering process when making gear, I'm assuming it's to filter out impurities so that the liver doesn't have to do it, or is it for sterility or both?
