i am attempting to put my own avatar on my username, and for some reason it is disabled. is there any way around this, or am i screwed?

I'm not 100% sure, but we just switched over to some new servers with a lot more features and security for the board! It might take a day or two to get everything sorted out. I'll check into it for you and see what's happening with avatars.
