What would you do with a welcher?

I got a guy at work who seems to be welching on a $20 bet. He keeps saying he's going to pay me but never does. I keep getting the run-around.

At first he was making me out to be a jerk. I'd ask about it maybe every other week or so and he would empty out his pockets and make a fool of himself in front of everyone, "I aint got it man, today aint payday, today aint Friday..."

Then I look for him on a Friday (we get paid every F), and he stopped scheduling himself on Fridays.

So I go up to him on the following Monday and ask why he makes me out to be the jerk by telling me multiple times I have to hit him on a payday when he doesn't even work them anymore.

Now I keep getting the...."I'll cash my check and come back." Twice, hasn't happened yet.



Really 20 bucks is the least of my worries but it's the princible of the matter.

AND TO BOOT.....

He made a bet w/ some other guy 2 months after he's owed me the 20 and payed him within a weeks time.

Now I'm getting razzed by the bet winner who got paid saying, "so why you going to let him flake out on a bet like that?"

WTF am I supposed to do?

I dont need the 20, but I dont want to make it seem like I'm soft. There's more to life and my jobs more important than 20 bucks so I aint going to beat him up or nothing.

I'm stuck, what would you do?

Blow his car up then tell him that he's next if you don't get your 20 bucks. lol.

Just lay a big ass guilt trip on him. Also make sure that guy no longer makes bets with anyone around work. Tell everyone that he wont pay up then get his ass fired for gambling at work....lmao

take something of his and tell him your going to hold it til you get the money. Fair trade. Make sure it's something that he would actually pay 20 bucks for.

You mean like his fiance'? She works with us and I'd take head. lol

Well, even if he can prove you took it, you had a bonafide bet with witnesses. Therefore he legitimately owes you the sum of 20 bucks. You are in the right to take collateral for payment. Believe me on this one, you won't end up in jail.

That's a tough one. Same thing happened to me a few years back and I never saw the money. It was only $10 was the least of my problems, and at the time I felt like the jerk for asking where the money was constantly so I dropped it. Best thing to do would probably be to keep hounding him for it in hopes that he will get sick of you harassing him and eventually pay. Or confront him in person and give him a certain date that you need the money buy. If that's not gonna work I'd look into what Tom said and see if that's actually legal. Thinking back, I wish I'd beat the piss outta the kid...not for the $10, but for the principal of it all.

This the guy you were gonna pull the prank on? If so, I say do it and never confess.

I'd probably drop it, but I'd also let him know that if he can't be honest, that you can't trust him for anything else either. Let him also know that word will get around about it. It's only fair to make sure that no one else would get burned by this guy.

And then I'd pull the prank on him.

I'd ignore his ass, , just walk by don't say a fuckig word don't even fucking look at him. When he asks whats up say it was worth my 20 bucks to find out what kinda person you are, so now that I know I don't what anything to do with your type, your the kind I try to seperate myslef from from. You'll get paid in a day.

I would just tell him what a dick he is being and say if he is the sort of spineless prick who can't even pay up after losing a bet then tell him hne is not worth it

Thanks, I'm probably going to give him the deadline. Then when he doesn't make it and says "Tomorrow for sure" then doesn;t make to e tomorrow pull a brew

did you not say you owned the company? so why not dock it from his paycheck? If not then do what i did. Wait til there is a bunch of people around him walk up to him and get in his face. Tell him you are not his fucken idiot and he better have the money by Friday or you are gonna beat his ass. Then make sure you tell him its not the money you give a fuck about its the fact that he thinks he can punk you that pisses you off. Right before you walk away say this. Dont make bets you cant pay or borrow money you cant pay(whatever the case may be) and call him a thief! By doing so you will cover your ass and he can not talk shit about you and say you are an asshole over 20 bucks and the fact the you called him a thief will stick with him and all those around him if he does not pay you back. it worked for me

bro i would ask him why he pays the other guys and not you....and if you wanna pull your badass card out...maybe do it. I wouldnt get heated over twenty dollars, but your right i t is the principle of paying up and being a man when you lose a bet. I hate that when people always weasel out and never pay up

I just had a revelation on this topic. I am guessing the reason that he doesn't pay you is because you are in good shape and he is jelous of you. I get it all the time, guys, like women, are just plain haters. They see a guy that is in good shape, takes care of himself, doesn't make an ass out of himself around town and take on a bad name, and they automatically hate you. I am guessing that this guy just plain hates you. So, with this in mind, the one thing you can do to really make him mad is go up to him and tell him "hey, can we talk in private a minute?". when he agrees tell him "listen bro, I don't mean to bust your balls over twenty bucks, and quite honestly if your having hard times right now, we can write it off. I'm better than that, bro. I'm not going to give you any more grief than you may already have in your life.".

This will piss him off like no other. Because you are showing him that you are a better person than he is. He will be so ashamed that he will 1. give you your money right then and there 2. feel like a complete ass for being such a loser.

Either way, you win.

That was good Tom, I wish I would've done that! His last excuse was, "I dont carry cash on me."

Anyway, I got my money today. I gave him the deadline thing and I almost kind of did what Tom said but not as good. I was like,

"Why would you make a bet if you dont carry money to pay people when you lose the bet? Hey man, it's $20 and it's not that big a deal but I feel when a man makes a bet I think the right thing to do is pay. Give me a day when you will have it. If it's after x-mas, that's fine, just make a deadline YOU can make. If you don't get it to me by YOUR deadline, I'll never ask about it again."

He came over to my desk grumbly about 3 minutes later wikth a crisp $20. He said he borrowed it from a FRIEND, in a tone that made it seem like he was implying that I wasn't a friend or something. Glad I'm not...

I got my money and this guy can fuck himself.
