so I'm on my way home from the DMV last night and only mildy frustrated with the experience of renewing my driver's license... I had a good day because I ran 3 miles for the first time in a few weeks and I trained legs and did a little extra ab work because I was feeling fat.

I drive past some new construction and a brand new sidewalk catchs my eye. Now in my town we have old blue slate sidewalks in front of most of the houses including mine and I have several badly cracked peices. Low and behold there are 8 or so nicely stacked blue stone slabs piled along the curb.

Now for those that don't know what I'm talking about when I say blue slate slabs, these peices of solid rock are 3" to 4" thick and are 3' x 3' and weigh anywhere from 300 - 400lbs. when dirty and wet. I get out of my truck and jostle the peice on top to see it's condition. Dirty but intact. I run home and change my clothes and get back over to the house with my Land Rover and a shovel.

I opened my tailgate and backed my truck up as close as I could and lowered the truck as far as it would go. I was able to lift the top peice and get it over to the truck but there was no way I could get it a grip on the 3' edges to get it inside the truck by myself. I felt like it was a World's Strongest Man event but there were no judges and no prize money so I decided to call a buddy to give me a hand. We got two peices into my truck and back to my house. I'm going to see if they're still there on my way home tonight.

Needless to say I woke up this morning like I was hit by a truck. I knew I would be a little sore from my workout but I'm in pain now! We had called to see how much it would cost to replace a few peices last year and they were going to be $200 each plus delivery and the new slate isn't as thick as what they used in the old days. So I saved myself a good deal of money, I don't mind being sore!!!

awesome find mike!!

real world lifting is a bitch. I do a lot of construction on the side... so i know what your talking about. Its not easy to lift something in a non-controlled environment. Your tripping over stuff, and trying to balance what take normally 2-3 guys.

that's funny cause i am the exact opposite. i just started going to the gym about a month ago and i'm sore as hell from it...i carry boilers into basement and do some stone work on the side... it's more of a brute strength to do stuff like that. totally different muscle motion and form... i feel ya bro

When I was younger I was over my cousins house and they were building a new
house across the street/down the block. We waited until LATE night to get the
supplies/materials that my cousin needed. Most of the material was sitting on piles
of dirt. We partied and crashed. The next morning we got up walked outside as the
workers were pulling up and noticed a trail of dirt going from the new house - up the
block - into my cousins garage. We just about craped. We hit that street with
brooms so fast no one even noticed. Sorry Mike, your story made me thind of that.
Hey - mabey you can use those slate slabs to compliment your workouts! LOL

ahhhh haha I could just see you running outside with a broom first thing in the morning that must have freaked you out there for a little while. The stack of stone is still out in front of the house so I'm thinking of going back for a few more peices since I could use them... damn those things are heavy though.

dug post holes and tiled all weekend. My back is a wreck today.... But i feel great!

MC's IGF... That does a body good!!
