anyone else have any great guitar players that they need to speak of?

I used to play quite a bit...but I honestly haven't picked up a guitar in a few months and even then it's just to screw around on it a bit. When I was younger my parents forced me to take piano and guitar lessons and I hated every second of them, but I really do enjoy playing both today. I just don't get the time to much anymore. I think the last guitar song I learned was "More Than Words" by Extreme cause my wife really liked it and it's pretty simple to learn.

I play a little guitar too. Some of my favorites are probably Alex Lifeson From Rush,Steve Via,Dimebag Darrel, Jimmy Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Johnson, Robin Trower, Eddie Van Hallen, and theres probably a few more that I just can't remember right now...lol

my primary influence was Randy Rhodes... I've learned at one time or another damn near every Metallica, slayer, megadeth song...not too hard just learn the A minor scale
don't really know if I'm ready for Satriani though, that guy is a BAD ASS

Hell yeah, I've been paying since just about after I could walk it seems. I give professional lessons, novice to intermediate, classical/metal/jazz/blues just about anything. Satriani is ok, but always seemed kind of soul-less to me. Yeah Tool, Alex Lifeson is the man, can't go wrong with Hendrix. I could go on for hours about this subject and all of my influences.

don't know if I would go so far as to say Surfing with the Alien is soul less, in my opinion I think that he put his soul into that one piece if nothing else

what do you think about Marty Friedman?
didn't care too much for his album Scenes but I like Dragon's Kiss

If you want to here the most soulfull perfection in guitar playing to this date, you gotta get a copy of Band of Gypsies with Hendrix and Buddy Miles rockin it out together. Theres a recording out there of a concert on new years eve of 1968. The songs, Who knows, and Machingun are awesome on that recording. Its Hendrix at his best.

I didn't really mean Surfing With an Alien was soul less, and don't get me wrong I know he's a great player, but I don't get that same jive I do with certain other guitarists. Alot of it comes down to personal tastes anyway. To me anything Hendrix touched was great, but he was my primary influence when I started playing aeons ago, I'm a lefty too and I think maybe in my head I just had a bond with his music when I was a child, stupid maybe but I grew up idolizing him.

And Band of Gypsies, man, R.I.P. Buddy Miles by the way, he just passed a couple days ago. Marty Friedman is another one Dorian, you said it. I like anything he plays on, of course I prefer the Megadeth years when he was in the band. And no, Guitar Hero does not count by any stretch.

what do you think about the whole Hendrix selling his soul at the crossroads to be the greatest guitar plater?

That wasn't Hendrix...that was Robert Johnson. Back in the 30's I think. And it's just a myth, but who knows maybe he did. Robert Johnson was the biggest influence on players like Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, all sorts of 60's rock innovators. I don't know if I believe in it or not but if he did it then hey, at least he left a timeless legacy I guess.

no suppose to be Hendrix did also, Robert was his hero
rumor has it that when Hendrix died he was down on all four howling like a dog chasing his own tail
rumor has it that Robert did the same thing
