A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!!!
It explains things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.


Her point: Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely.

Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.
Let's say I break into your house.
Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave.
But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors.
I've done all the things you don't like to do.
I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters:
You are Required to let me stay in your house.
You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan.
You are Required to Educate my kids.
You are Required to Provide benefits to me & to my family (my husband will do all of your yard work because he is also hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my RIGHT to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself.

And what a deal it is for me!!!

I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and bigoted behavior.

Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you to learn MY LANGUAGE!!! so you can communicate with me.

I cant believe how schools in texas now require that students learn spanish! They dont all do it though, yet.

this is the govt philosophy - if its too hard then just make a diversion to something else.

That's so ridiculous. I thought that Bush even announced that the U.S. official language was English at some point. What is it that these guys are not getting?

Ah, but what if its not your house in the first place?

What if someone else was living there first, and you came and beat the crap out of them and chased them away. Do you now have any legal title to that house? Do you have any right at all to tell someone else they can't do the same to you?

Because thats exactly what we did to the Native Americans, folks...

The "House" analogy also falls apart because it assumes that the nation (which belongs to all of us) can speak with one voice on who can enter - and it can't. I'm an American, I have 'ownership' in this "house,' and I believe in OPEN borders. Thats' right, OPEN...a free flow of goods, services, capital, and labor. Free People. What a concept. So if TWO of us own the house togeter, and I invite someone in, and you dont want them there, it gets a little fuzzy, doesnt it?

In the Declaration of Independence, we specifically criticized King George for *prohibiting* free immigration by the non-English...and now we are doing the same thing, becoming the Empire we rebelled against. Soviet Russia was a great one for prohibiting immigration.....

I agree we should not offer ANY FREE services to immigrants (OR TO NATIVE-BORN people!!!) The problem is NOT immigration (which is a strength), but WELFARE. Attack the real issue. Peple are not "illegal." People have been coming here to breathe free for over 200 years. If you think that should be over, take down the Statue of Liberty.

As for language, Spanish was spoken in this country (St. Augustine FL) 3 decades before the Jamestown colonists landed. And Nieuw Amsterdam (NYC) counted 35 different languages being spoken before the English took over.

We are in a global economy. If you refuse to learn other languages, you do so to your own detriment and peril.

Well unfortunately that will never happen...Imagine if we let all the poor people die because they couldn't afford to take care of themselves. How would the US look?

It does crack me up when the English "discovered" America - there just happened
to be people there. Also, with that "open border" thing - like "Nafta" where
truckers from Mexico can come across and do business here but not have to pay
attention to any of the rules that our 'local' truckers do - such as smog compliance
or saftey compliance. When you make it harder for our currant legal residents
to make a living and easier rules for non-residents I think there is a problem.

bingo...we've got a correct answer. The rules apply to every legal citizen and do not apply to illegals. I can't get free health care despite how shitty it might be when I needed it. I can't get welfare money despite how much I need it. I don't get free food. What's up with that?

You are right we should do away with most welfare programs, but to get rid of all would be terrible for the people that actually need it. There should be time constraints and exclusions for only legalized citizens. People should do it the correct way and have documentation to live in this country and pay taxes, medicare, social security, etc. like the rest of us. (or at least most of us...there are legal leaches living here too so I wont lay the blame on only illegal aliens)

We need to reform our whole government especially our economic future. I'm not sure if I would like to know how things will be 10 years from now. It's crazy.
