I play semi-pro football and our first game was Saturday, In the last play of the first half I dislocated my shoulder and was able to pop it back own my own right after it happen. I have never had this happen before, so it freaked me out. Anywho, I sat out the 3rd quarter, and played some the 4th until I couldnt take it anymore. My shoulder hurts like hell now. Was wondering if anyone has had this happen and what did you do to treat it and how long did it take?

nah bro never had it personaly but i know a guy i use to play ball with would pop it in on a regular basis as it always popped out, lol, he just iced it and never had to see a doctor but scar tissue or someshit built up

the more it comes out the easier it will and the less painful it'll become so don't turn into one of those guys that does it at parties!

I would see a Doc as soon as you can and they'll treat it and help you rehab your delt and surrounding supporting ligs and tendons to keep it from becoming a recurring thing.

I dislocated mine in 1998 wrestling in high school. It has never healed, I feel it every day and have to sleep with it above my head every night. Docs want to grind off a quarter inch of one of the bones and the joint started to get arthritus due to the injury. They told me 6 months to get back to 70 to 80 percent so i just work through it and when it hurts I slow down plus my job prevents me from taking off that much time. I dont want down time but I know making this choice now I WILL regret it in the future. Ive learned to use other muscles to help out but I will never get a super high bench because of it now. You just got to make the choice when the docs tell you what they think and weigh out the options.

Run as fast as you can and send it into the corner of a brick wall 5 times a day, the cartilage will build thicker and thicker and it will heal itself.

No really it could haunt you the rest of your life. It could feel like a lifetime of toothaches. Take it slow, see a good doc, and educate yourself on how to exercise to bring it back. Could be a little problem or a big one depending on how far it stretched after leaving the socket. Ex-rays early can only tell if its back where it needs to be and if any damage was done (chipping). Peace.

Mike has good advise. You need to rehab the muscles, ligs, and tendons surrounding it as no doubt some of them were damaged when it popped out. It also depends on the direction it popped out, most are anterior dislocations but if you get a posterior dislocation and you try to pop it back in the way you have seen a lot of people do it you will screw yourself up really bad. The best way to pop it back in without tearing a bunch of tissue is to lay on your stomach on a table and get a 15 lb weight. Hang your arms over the edges of the table and hold the weight in the hand on the side where the shoulder is dislocated. Do this for a few minutes and it will move back into place and there won't be nearly as much residual pain or symptoms as you aren't causing more trauma by a high velocity movement. And remember you are going to have to rehab this good both to get the pain to go away and to keep it from happening again.
