Burned

Interesting title, I thought. Anyhow, yesterday (Father's day) I went to lunch with my wife and 3 little ones. We went to eat at a Japanese Steakhouse for the 1st time in Knoxville. Well, we waited for 1.25 hours to be seated which sucked, but we played outside with the kids so it was alright. Then after repeatedly asking for a high-chair for the baby, 20 months old, we didn't get one. They seated us at the grill, which had no food on it and no chef there to prepare anything. Then we ordered drinks and they brought them to us, apparently the waitress knows what parts of the grill were cool and which ones were hot b/c she set the drinks on the grill instead of handing them to us directly.

Well, about 1 minute after this, after another high-chair request, my littlest girl stood up in her chair when my wife wasn't looking and fell forward catching herself on the grill with her right hand. She didn't get burned as bad as she could've b/c my wife heard someone gasp and turned to see her just as she touched the grill. She jerked her up, but my daughter has 2nd degree burns on her right palm.

The manager was rude when I told him what happened and asked why he didn't get us a high-chair and why there were no signs telling us the grill was hot. He said they were busy. That's it. What a POS

I got a call from their insurance company last night and this guy was much nicer. He says they will pay her hospital bills. I want them to put signs up telling people the grills are always on, even when no one is there and possibly not seat anyone under the age of 3 at the table without a high-chair as the grill is close enough for a 20 month old to reach out and touch.

Just wanted to rant to someone...

I guess Fathers day is getting as bad as Mothers Day. I gave up going out to eat
on either of those days because of the crazy crowd's. The wait's are outragious
and the service is shitty. New Years Eve is also a joke to go out to dinner.
Just my experience. Sorry about your little girl. I would have snapped. I would think
about hitting the inshurance guy for some pain and suffering. And stress how rude
the manager was - then tell him you were thinking about calling your wife's brother
who works for the local news!!! (that usually gets them)

pain and suffering? Time to get your little one's college fund started

Bump that!!! Seriously!! All you got to do is mention it and they will start throwing numbers at you!! You shouldnt feel the least bit guilty with all the people out there taking advantage of things like that and to be someone that honestly needed action to be taken so it doesnt happen again... Do it!

poor little one---why didn't you kick his damn ass--I would have unfortunately I would have went to jail for it but that is just me---poor little one that asshole!!!

Thanks for the concern guys, she is doing fine now. Has her hand wrapped up so it looks like she has a boxing glove on. She thinks it's fun to hit people with. I have spoken to their insurance company and I'm waiting on a call tomorrow. They're going to pay for the medical bills but that's all I'm going to ask for right now. The statute of limitations on this is 17 years due to her age and the one thing I am worried about is scarring from the burns. If this happens on her palm there is a large chance that she will develop come contractures which will require surgery to fix later on. I think they are going to try and throw some $$$ at me to get me to settle now so they can avoid that in the future if it happens, but I'm going to say no and avoid that whole thing.

And you know, it's a little odd. In the situation I wasn't angry at all, the anger came after she stopped her screaming and went to sleep. I was just concerned about getting her hand better in the moment. But the insurance company apologized again today about the manager and the owner spoke to them as well. We will wait until tomorrow and see what the insurance adjuster has to say about it all. The good thing is Gracie is doing much better now!!!

good call on holding out on payment.
Also, if they want to settle, it might be wise to talk with a lawyer.
You would hate to look back and see you sold yourself (or Gracie) short.
My girls are getting older and help with their education (college) would
be AWSOME!!! Sound's like you are thinking with a calm head. Just dont
make any hasty decisions.
