Tito Ortiz wants Chuck Liddell

In an era in which Lyoto Machida and Anderson Silva are openly petitioning management for heavyweight fights, the idea of Tito Ortiz trying to chip away at the ego of Chuck Liddell should underwhelm you like nothing else.

"I think if I call him out enough times, I think he'll be a man and step up," Ortiz told MMAWeekly. "Why wouldn't he? That's a huge fight and a big payday for him. It will be good."

Why wouldn't he? Because Liddell, unlike Ortiz, had a gamesman's attitude toward the sport: Taking bouts that risked his guaranteed title bids, never turning down a fight and generally looking happy to be in there. He never headhunted graying fighters, something Ortiz does with alarming regularity.

After being slaughtered twice by Liddell, Ortiz has seen him softened up on successive occasions by Rashad Evans and Mauricio Rua. If you can't beat a fresh Liddell -- and he clearly could not -- then the next best thing must be to wait for an encouragingly bad MRI scan to come in before pursuing a third fight. Picking at a carcass doesn't flatter him.

I don't even think it would be a good fight anymore and definitely hard to market. Let's say Ortiz wins at UFC 106, then he's on the rise while Chuck is down and out. Who wants to see that match up? Ok, so let's say he loses... then we have two fighters both on losing streaks, seriously? Oh well, I do like Tito and hope he wins against Forrest, but I don't think he should be going after Chuck.

Tito and Chuck are both on the way out I suspect. Tito can beat some lower level guys in that weight class but just like Chuck he won't be competitive for a title anymore.

regardless itll sell tickets, and we all know tito is gonna get under chucks skin if hes being a little dixk about it.

Lidell already beat him twice. If they both had won one it would deserve a third but Tito couldn't back up his mouth the first two times
he dosent deserve a third. Lets see him get past Griffin. I doubt it.

If he beats forrest ill be surprised. No point in the matchup between him and chuck it would be fun for us fans to watch but i think tito would take chuck out at this point.
