getting a new TV but have been out of the loop for a while. What is your
guys input on the LCD and LED compared to the plasma? I have plasma
now and plan on getting around 32-40" but have heard the lcd and led
have really improved. Any input is appreciated

Get a LED, you'll love it. Wish I could afford one and dont get anything below a 120hz.

thanks bro. the prices are really comming down. My TV is just about
shot and got a little $ from tax's so going to try to shop/buy this
weekend. Thanks for the input

Depends on what your wanting it for. I would personally go with the best plasma you can afford. But if you want small the new samsung LED is simply bad ass.

Plasma panels still have the best picture quality. LEDs are overpriced. In fact, LED panels are just LCD panels with different backlighting. Regular LCD panels use a CCFL backligh, while LED panel are LCD screen with LED backlight which is brighter and uses less energy. Heck, some LEDs aren't even backlight, they are edge lit. That's mostly the only that are like .0004 inches thick though. The best picture you will find still belongs to the Pioneer Elite Kuro which is a 3 year old panel. Those are bigger than you want, but I'm just pointing out that modern LCD technology still isn't up to par with Plasmas from years ago. I would check out the line of Panasonic panels. Panny plasmas have a reputation for excellent picture quality and affordable pricing. They have a 42" 1080p for around $700. That's just as cheap as any LCD and cheaper than any LED with better quality. No brainer really.

I am an electronics buyer- I have to agree for the money Plasmas have the best picture quality compared to LCD or even LED.
The Pioneers were the best but they have gotten out of the Plasma market.
Samsung/Panasonic are best IMHO, but Sony and Vizio are not bad either.
I bought a 1080p, 50" plasma , one Panasonic and one Samsung- great TV's.
I would get the extended warranties as well. If you are considering 3D I would wait- too expensive and not a lot of content yet...

I went through this same thing a few years ago, here is what I did...

Plasma, LCD, LED, Tube, Flat screen, curve screen, wide screen....its fucking confusing as fuck...pixels, resolution, format, blah blah blah...

I finally said FUCK IT and bought the biggest wall mountable tv I could afford...I bought a Sanyo 50 something LCD...had it for a couple of years now and it works great, its awesome and picture is great.. The way I look at is, a tv is a tv...if you care about all the BS above your spending too much time watching TV and not enough time in the gym...

i disagree i love my technology, if your going to enjoy something and have the money knowledge on specs to spend then by all means do so. 24 hours in the day 2 hours in the gym lot of time left in that day.

I have a Samsung 52" LED, and the picture is incredible. I've had plasma's and LCD's, and I have to say my Samsung LED has given me the best picture... especially with the BluRay playing. Sometimes I jump because I think things are coming out of my TV... it looks THAT real. My TV: http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/.../LN52A650A1FXZA/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail You can ask CH3NO2 what he thought the first time he came over and I had Transformers playing on it. He stopped at the door, his jaw hit the floor, and he was like, "Holy fuck"!!

With that being said, in my old job, we had plasma's, and they ran 24/7/365... after about 14 months, we'd have to replace them because they would die. Plus the heat that the plasma's put out is crazy. Our "tv room" would be a solid 12-15 degrees warmer than any other room in the building, and that's with 2 40" plasma's. Those are the main reasons why I personally don't care for plasma.

Just to respond to the last part, I don't know how big the room was that the two tv's were in but my living room doesn't get any hotter from my plasma. Also, the bulbs in modern plasmas are rated at the very least 60,000 hours. If you left it on 24 hours a day it will still run for 2500 days (almost 7 years).

The room was a 20x20. Maybe the newer plasmas are better... this was about 5 years ago. But it definitely put a bad taste in my mouth, so I've stayed away from them since. But I love the hell out of my LED Samsung!! Shit looks like you can see everything in 3D. :gold:

Have a large plasma in my living room. Needed one for my bedroom.
I have been shoping around (I'm a cheap bastard) and was going to
get one on the internet - no tax and free shiping. On Tue. nt. My bedroom
one died. My wife said "your getting a fucking TV tomorow". I ended up
at costco. Got a 37" lcd - (smaller for the bedroom - had a 32" before)
Visio. Picture was one of the best of their selection and it was only $500.
Got the blue ray DVD set up for wireless (for netflix) and am upgrading my
satelite to HD this saturday. Thanks for the input guys.
I think they stoped making Plasmas smaller then 40"
