Tanning Salon Or Tan At The Gym?

How do you guys do it? My gym has two stand up tanning beds and they are pretty decent, but the time limit on them is 10 minutes. I usually tan for at least 15 if I go to a salon. I almost never burn, (good skin), so it's a little frustrating to be limited to only 10 minutes. The only upside is tanning is only $5 more a month at the gym, and unlimited tanning at a salon is like having another gym membership :greedy::greedy:

Do you guys have good beds at your gym or do you go to a salon?

Go to my gym for now Ours are standups as well and their max is 12 minutes. They are alot stronger then normal beds though, Im getting decently dark right now and still only going 9 minutes When i get to 12 3 times a week and stop getting darker i might go to a salon.

Not in my city lol they are like an extra 20 or more bucks a month at ours.

they used to charge but some time last year i was under the understanding it was a corporate decision at ALL branches.....is that where you train? or have you been back to see if it's changed for you?

I used to tan at the gym when I had a membership to one with a stand-up bed, but the limit was also 10 minutes and it was just a basic machine.

I just signed up for an unlimited one-month membership to Beach Bum tanning for $145 and I'm definitely getting my money's worth. I never use to like lay-down beds, but they have beds that "claim" to do different things (different bulbs, strengths, type of color, etc) so I've been using one where you can choose a basic tan, mediterranean color or caribbean color. Loving it so far!! Plus it has longer bulbs that extend throughout the length of the bed.

It probably doesn't matter, but I like being able to plug in my own ipod and lay down and relax. Plus, I can cover my eyes with a towel when I lay down to avoid sun exposure to my eye tissue and reduce skin damage.

$145 for one month! :greedy::greedy::greedy: Wow. I could never justify paying that much myself, but if you think it's worth it more power to ya. Man, and I thought $60 for unlimited tanning at the salons around here was steep.

That could be the case, i quit anytime in my city for the same reasons your pissed at yours, owners are stupid fucks. They might have changed here too. That would be a pretty good deal if so.

Oh and hey steph towels dont block uv radiation they just filter it and it goes through. Definitely always wear tanning goggles if you can. The eyelids dont block out the uv's either.

I awlays tan half the time with goggles and half the time without them so I don't get lines. Been doing that for about 10-11 years now

Not saying your going to go blind but its definitely not recommended. That was just a little FYI, I never get lines and use them no matter what. Im surprised as dark as you stay you get any at all.

yeah I'm not arguing with you, you have a real good point. Sometimes I just aint the sharpest whip in the shed

Trust me, I wouldn't have thought it would be worth it either... but I got a bug up my ass the other week and signed up without hesitation, lol. Light therapy does wonders for my psyche (especially after a long, cold, dark winter) so it puts me in a good mood, in addition to giving me some caramel-ish skin which I think is sexy-looking (despite knowing the dangers of how bad it is for you), so I'm rolling with it for now.

Thanks GS! :) I should have been more clear. I ALWAYS wear goggles (I know some people where those winkie things, but I don't think they protect as well!) I put the towel over my goggle-covered eyes... I would never go in without eye protection ever again (did a few times when I was younger).

Anyway a girl I work with told me the other day that she doesn't use ANY eye protection AND she keeps her eyes open the whole time because she wants to "see". I was like "OMG, NOOOOO! You're gonna go blind!!" She's a little ditzy so she was like "really, it's that bad?" Jesus, of course it's that bad... it's freakin' radiation for crying out loud! Plus, she hasn't been putting on lotion except for baby lotion and she wonders why she's itchy? I slather myself neck to ankles in cocoa butter twice a day to keep my skin moisturized and maintain the integrity of my color. I couldn't believe a woman in her mid-20s could make such damaging mistakes. I hope she listened to me... I'll have to ask her this week.
